Mikel Arteta expects difficult January transfer window

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says the club do not have much room to manoeuvre in the January transfer window and may have to offload players before they can add to the first-team squad. Arsenal are reportedly looking for a creative midfielder, with RB Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai and Olympique Lyonnais’ Houssem Aouar among the options being considered, while Arteta would also like to improve his defensive options. “We are planning, talking with (technical director) Edu and with the club about the things we can do in January,” Arteta told reporters. “But at the moment it’s pretty difficult, unpredictable as well. In terms of places, we are very restricted in the moment. “We will need to do something knowing the limitations of that market in January and the limitations we have as well to si...

Spanish club interested in Arsenal and Palace defenders

Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi and Crystal Palace’s Mamadou Sakho have been named by Estadio Deportivo as potential incomings at Real Betis, as the Spanish side looks to bolster their centre-back options. Real Betis have made a somewhat concerning start to the 2020/21 campaign. After accumulating nine points from their opening four games, they have since lost six of the next seven fixtures. They currently find themselves in 14th place, just two points above the relegation zone. It’s not been an easy ride for Pellegrini this season What will be even more worrying for manager Manuel Pellegrini is the backline. Los Verdiblancos have conceded 23 goals in La Liga so far – three more than anyone else in the division. Estadio Deportivo has named both Mustafi and Sakho as possible targets for the La L...

Report: La Liga club keen to sign 28 y/o Arsenal star who rejected a new deal in the summer

Barcelona are looking to bolster their defence in the January transfer window, and have earmarked Antonio Rudiger and Shkodran Mustafi as potential targets, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.  The Catalan giants are interested in signing Eric Garcia, but should they fail to land the Manchester City defender, they would turn their attention towards either Mustafi or Rudiger. Gerard Pique suffered a knee ligament injury in November and the Spanish defender is likely to be sidelined for around four months. Garcia is Ronald Koeman’s first-choice target, but Mustafi has emerged as an alternative back-up option. Mustafi to leave Arsenal?  The 28-year-old is yet to start in the Premier League this season. Nice manager Patrick Vieira is keen on signing Arsenal defender William Saliba in the January transfer window, according to reports from But! Football Club.  Saliba is a highly-rated young defender but he is not in Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans at the moment. The curious case of Saliba  The Gunners signed Saliba for a reported fee of £27m in 2019 from French side Saint-Etienne and allowed him to stay for the rest of the season on loan to gain experience. However, the early end to the Ligue 1 season meant the loan move didn’t work smoothly, and he returned to Arsenal. Fans were excited to see him back. It was meant to be his breakthrough season, but he is yet to appear for the club. Arteta has excluded him from the Europa League squad, but he is eligible to p...

Martinelli expected to play for Arsenal U23s by the end of December

Gabriel Martinelli is expected to play for Arsenal’s Under-23 side by the end of December as he looks to step up his return to full fitness. The 19 year old suffered a knee injury in training on June 21st which has seen him sidelined for the last five months. Prior to his injury, Martinelli was enjoying a breakthrough season in his first year at Arsenal and had established himself as one of the club’s most important players.  Last season, he scored ten goals and provided four assists in 26 games across all competitions. He became the first Arsenal teenager to score ten goals in a single campaign since Nicolas Anelka did the same in the 1998/99 season. The Brazilian attacker has an impressive workrate and an eye for goal. His ability to press is second to none in comparison with Arsena...

Quique Setien: Barcelona yet to inform me of sack

Former Barcelona coach Quique Setien claims the Catalans have not compensated him for his early dismissal, or even called to inform of his contract termination three months on. Setien replaced Ernesto Valverde in January signing on a contract until 2022 as the club hoped to reconnect with their philosophy of exciting, possession-based football. However, Setien’s time at Barça was marred with problems, from an apparently strained relationship with talisman Lionel Messi that reportedly spread to other members of the squad, to underwhelming results and performances on the pitch. The culmination of numerous issues at the club was the 8-2 humiliation by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final. The embarrassing result contributed to Messi’s desire to leave and effectively spelled the...

Are Arsenal looking to sell Nicolas Pepe?

Arsenal are reportedly trying to offload club-record signing Nicolas Pepe (Daily Star). Pepe joined Arsenal in the summer of 2019 from Lille for a staggering £72m transfer fee. Since then, he has netted 12 goals in 56 appearances in all competitions, most recently opening the scoring in their 3-0 Europa League triumph over Molde. Since coming to the Emirates, the Ivorian has shown flashes of potential without ever consistently producing the goods. Last weekend’s red card against Leeds United has done little to keep the critics quiet. Pepe was sent off for a headbutt on Leeds’ Alioski Manager Mikel Arteta came out in support of his player after the win against Molde, claiming that he put in a “great performance”, while adding that he needs to “keep improving”. Arsenal risk being left behind by London rivals

Arsenal put in a below-par performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, falling to a 2-1 home defeat. Just a few hours earlier, fellow Londoners Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur battled out a drab 0-0 draw. All three London sides produced uninspiring performances. However, Tottenham are top of the league, and Chelsea are in the Champions League spots. Arsenal, on the other hand, are 14th. It’s been far from an ideal start to the new season for Mikel Arteta’s men. Ten games in, and they have amassed just 13 points. Frankly, if the current bottom four weren’t looking so poor and if the team wasn’t filled with such good players, that is relegation candidate form. Arsenal have been underwhelming this season But where are they actually going wrong? What are Spurs and Chelsea doing that t...

Arsenal revive interest in Ibrahima Konate

Arsenal have been linked to RB Leipzig centre-back Ibrahima Konate once again, according to Spanish site TodoFichajes.com. The Gunners have not made an ideal start to life in the 2020/21 campaign, currently languishing in 14th place after ten games. Their last outing exposed some defensive frailties, as Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence struck to seal a 2-1 victory for Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates. Arsenal have been underwhelming this season In contrast, RB Leipzig have been rock solid at the back this term, conceding just six in the league – only Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad have let in fewer from Europe’s top five leagues. Konate himself has only been playing for a few weeks, having missed the start of the season with a hip problem. TodoFichajes.com reports that Arsenal ...

Wolves were also held to a draw by Southampton last time out after heading into the international break on the back of a defeat to Leicester City, and they will fancy their chances of leaving ...
