Every Premier League Club’s Best Signing of 2020

2020 has been a strange year for everyone, and football is no exception. The COVID-19 pandemic, the three-month break, the null and void debacle, the eventual return of football, Liverpool finally getting their hands on the Premier League trophy, the non-stop debate over when it’s safe for fans to return. The pandemic has had a financial impact on every club, but that hasn’t stopped anyone from getting their wallets out. Here’s a look at every Premier League club’s best signing of 2020 (looking at both January 2020 and the extended summer transfer window). Arsenal – Thomas Partey (£45m) Partey was a statement of intent from the Gunners Brazilian teammate Gabriel Magalhaes could have easily gone here, but the statement of intent behind Thomas Partey’s signing is why he claims this spot. The...

Chambers says Arteta wants ball-playing centre backs and he fits the bill

Callum Chambers has said that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants ball-playing central defenders at the club and that he sees himself as that kind of player. The 25-year-old has returned to full fitness after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Arteta’s early days at the club in a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at the Emirates. He started for the Gunners for the first time since that game in the club’s 4-2 win over Irish side Dundalk in the Europa League. Eddie Nketiah, Mohamed Elneny, Joe Willock and Folarin Balogun were the goalscorers. Thursday evening’s victory made Arsenal the only side in the continent to win all six games in the group stage of a European competition this season. Arteta’s side have qualified for the Round of 32 of the Europa League and will discover the...

Arteta says Aubameyang is not undroppable but provides him with his full support

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said that Aubameyang, like the rest of the playing staff, is not undroppable but has provided him with his full support. The club captain was rested in the North London side’s 4-2 victory over Irish side Dundalk in the Europa League last night. The Gunners have won their group and will find out who they will face in the Round of 32 on December 14th. Eddie Nketiah, who scored the first goal in Thursday night’s victory, is now Arsenal’s top scorer this season with five goals in all competitions.  On whether Aubameyang is undroppable, Arteta said: “No one is undroppable. At the end of the day, we have to find the right players to win football matches. But we cannot forget what Auba has done for this club and what he has done in recent months, not years ag...

Mari says he will follow Arteta ‘to the end of the world’

Pablo Mari has said that he would follow Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to the end of the world, according to Spanish media outlet EFE.  The Spanish defender has provided his complete backing to the Gunners boss who has come under increasing pressure due to the club’s recent results. The North London club have made their worst ever start to a Premier League season and find themselves 15th in the table after having played 11 games.  There are many who are questioning whether Arteta is out of his depth at Arsenal. Fans who are keen to see him lose his job argue that while he was able to stabilise the Gunners last season and lead them to FA Cup glory, he is unable to fix their problems in attack. They argue that while results have been dire,  performances have almost been worse a...

Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal transfer European form into Premier League

Mikel Arteta has demanded Arsenal transfer their Europa League form into the Premier League, where he says his side need to start winning matches “immediately”. Goals from Eddie Nketiah, Mohamed Elneny, Joe Willock and Folarin Balogun helped the Gunners ease past Irish side Dundalk 4-2 in Dublin on Thursday to finish top of Group B with a 100 per cent record – the first time they have won six successive European matches since 2005. That fine European form is in sharp contrast to their domestic struggles, where the club have lost six out of their last nine matches to slump to 15th in the table. With the Europa League now finished with until February, Arsenal can focus all their attention on domestic competition, with Arteta stressing the urgent need to pick up positive results, starting wit...

Report: Wolves eyeing 24-yr-old linked with Arsenal, after Raul Jimenez injury blow

Valencia striker Maxi Gomez could be allowed to leave the club in January. According to Daily Mail, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal are keeping tabs on the Uruguayan international. Valencia are under financial stress due to the Coronavirus crisis and they could look to sell the player in order to raise some funds when the transfer window reopens next month. The player was heavily linked with a move to West Ham United at the start of this season but the 24-year-old ended up staying in Spain. Maxi Gomez has a release clause of £125 million but Valencia are prepared to sell him for less than that in order to cope with their financial losses. According to reports, Arsenal have been watching the forward over the past two seasons. Meanwhile, Wolverhampton Wanderers needs to sign a striker in...

Dundalk vs Arsenal: Europa League Match Preview, Team News and Predicted Line-ups

Arsenal travel to Ireland today to face Dundalk and will look to secure their sixth win of the Europa League group stage campaign. [embedded content] The Gunners have booked a place in the last-32 of the competition as Group B leaders following their impressive run thus far, and manager Mikel Arteta is expected to hand a couple of fringe players the chance to impress tonight. Dundalk are without a point in the Europa League this term having lost all of their opening five group games, and they shouldn’t pose any sort of threat to a second-string Arsenal side given their form and quality. The North Londoners have struggled to impress in the Premier League in 2020-21, losing six out of 11 games and winning just four, so they will be keen to make the most of their chances in the knockout stage...

Romano: Arsenal were ‘negotiating’ with target’s agent; player will make his decision this week

Popular football journalist and transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, has provided an update on Arsenal’s interest in Dominik Szoboszlai. According to a recent report from The Athletic, a host of clubs including Arsenal and Tottenham are showing keen interest in the 20-year-old playmaker. Mikel Arteta’s side have made the worst possible start by the club in the Premier League era following their 2-0 defeat against Spurs in the north London derby. While speaking to The Arsenal Lounge, Romano has claimed that the Gunners would be trying to bring in a creative midfielder in the January transfer window. Arsenal were heavily interested in signing Houssem Aouar during the summer transfer window but they failed to secure a deal for him. Romano claims that the Gunners could try the...

Carragher suggests the two best players for Arsenal at the moment

Popular football pundit Jamie Carragher has suggested that Arsenal should stick with Mikel Arteta despite the club’s poor start to the season. The Spaniard guided Arsenal to FA Cup success last season, but the Gunners have made a poor start to their 2020/21 season so far. Arsenal have been very inconsistent this season, and find themselves 15th in the league table following their 2-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby. Carragher has questioned the club’s recent signings, branding it as a ‘joke’. The Sky Sports pundit specifically mentions Willian, Cedric Soares and David Luiz, and feels those were not Arteta’s choices. The former Liverpool defender said on Sky Sports: “There’s a lot of nonsense around the club. I think some of the signings are a joke, in terms of br...

Report: 92-cap International is highly likely to leave Arsenal next month

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has been tipped to join the Turkish club Fenerbahce when the transfer window reopens in January. According to the club’s congress member Murat Zorlu, the former German international is 90% likely to join the Turkish club next month. Zorlu told Sport Digitale: “A source, who’s very well connected to the club has told me that Mesut Ozil is likely to become a Fenerbahce player during the next transfer window. “I would say 90% he will join us in one month.” Ozil has not played for Arsenal this season and he has been left out of the Premier League and the Europa League squad. It is evident that Mikel Arteta does not consider him as a part of his first-team plans and the former World Cup winner needs to move on in search of regular first-team football. Even tho...

Jamie Carragher makes bold claim on Spurs duo…and baffled by what Arsenal star did

Former Liverpool defender turned popular football pundit, Jamie Carragher, has singled out Hector Bellerin for criticism following Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat against Tottenham in the Premier League clash on Sunday. Carragher feels that Mikel Arteta got horribly wrong with his tactics against Spurs in the north London derby, and that the Gunners were naive in their approach. Although Arsenal enjoyed the lion’s share of possession, they hardly troubled the Spurs back-line. They lacked penetration, while Spurs punished them on the counter. The Sky Sports pundit has praised Spurs duo – Harry Kane and Son Heung Min – claiming they are the ‘most dangerous combination in European football right now’. He has criticised Bellerin’s position during the game and the amount of space Arsenal left for the Spur...
