Granit Xhaka sends message to Arsenal fans after howler vs Burnley

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka posted an apology on his Instagram account after he cost the Gunners a victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday. The Gunners made a fantastic start against the Clarets in the early Premier League kick-off and scored after just six minutes through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. They were handed a couple of chances to double their lead through Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka, but were unable to make the most of those opportunities. The Clarets eventually levelled the scores in the 39th minute and it was a pure gift by Xhaka, who was the centre of the attention against Sean Dyche’s side again. The Swiss was sent off during the reverse meeting at the Emirates Stadium in December before the Gunners suffered a 1-0 defeat via an Aubameyang own goal. This time around, X...

‘Very unlucky’: Bernd Leno reacts to Granit Xhaka’s blunder vs Burnley

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has reacted to Granit Xhaka’s blunder during the club’s 1-1 Premier League draw at Burnley on Saturday. The Gunners took the lead after just six minutes through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and should have doubled the advantage with the chances handed to them. However, they ended up going into the break with the scores level after a horrendous mistake from Xhaka. The Swiss midfielder asked for the ball from Leno in the six-yard box and attempted to clear across the face of goal. Instead, the ball struck Chris Wood’s hip and bounced into an empty net with Leno rooted at the far post. That happened to be the final goal of the game despite chances for both sides for the remainder of the contest. Speaking after the draw, Leno said that the club have been successful i...

Twitter reacts to eventful draw between Burnley and Arsenal

Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley on an eventful afternoon at Turf Moor on Saturday. Things started in ideal fashion for the Gunners. Arsenal provide update on Smith Rowe ahead of Burnley clash

Arsenal have this evening revealed a late update on the fitness of Emile Smith Rowe, ahead of their showdown with Burnley. Mikel Arteta’s men are set to return to action tomorrow afternoon, in a Premier League meeting with the Clarets. The Gunners will of course head into the Turf Moor clash with their tails up, on the back of a morale boosting pair of wins over the last couple of weeks. First, a last-gasp Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang header saw Arsenal get the better of Benfica, to book their spot in the Last-16 of the Europa League. And this was followed last weekend by a hugely impressive 3-1 downing of Leicester City at the King Power Stadium. The news, as a whole, proved of a positive nature, with only two players – including 3rd-choice goalkeeper Alex Runarsson – struggling as things st...

Former Arsenal chief reveals club were ‘very close’ to signing £88m Bundesliga star

In an interview with Goal.com, former Arsenal head of youth recruitment Steve Morrow has revealed that the Gunners were very close to signing Jadon Sancho before he joined Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017. The Gunners have missed out on several big-name players over the years. Their failure to sign the likes of Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo continue to be talked about. Morrow has now disclosed that the Gunners failed to pursue Sancho on two separate occasions. The club initially tried to sign him in 2015 when he was an academy graduate at Watford, but he joined Manchester City. After a couple of years, Sancho decided to pursue a fresh challenge in the bid to secure regular first-team football. The Gunners were on the cusp of finding an agreement with the att...

Arsenal announce huge losses following COVID-19 pandemic

Arsenal’s accounts for the 2019/20 season have been announced, revealing a massive £47.8 million loss. The figures cover the expenses during the time period from May 31st 2019 through to May 31st 2020. Therefore, Premier League matches played during June and July, as well as August’s FA Cup win, are not included in the report. August’s FA Cup triumph was not included in the accounts According to Football.London, the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent halting of all football cost the club £34m in broadcasting money, as well as £14m in matchday revenue. However, the £34m in broadcasting money will count towards next year’s accounts. The pandemic reduced the costs of running a football club, with £19m cost savings being made by the Gunners. This is largely made up from the pay cuts taken by fir...

With Manchester City looking nailed on to win the title, attention has switched onto the battle to qualify for Europe. Arsenal have the opportunity to boost their chances when they visit Burnley in the early game on Saturday. There are three further games later the same day, with the Midlands derby between Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers the pick of the bunch. Villa are also in the running to bag a European qualification spot but may find it difficult to break Wolves down. There are four fixtures on Sunday, headlined by the Manchester derb...

Arsenal midfielder may not play under Mikel Arteta again, asking price set

Arsenal will sanction the sale of midfielder Matteo Guendouzi once he returns from his season-long loan stint at Hertha Berlin this summer, Football Insider reports. Guendouzi fell out-of-favour under manager Mikel Arteta following the project restart last season due to an incident after the defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion. The Frenchman was frustrated with Neal Maupay playing a part in Bernd Leno’s knee injury and after the final whistle, he grabbed the forward by the neck for a brief moment. He escaped any punishment through the FA for the reaction, but Arteta was clearly not pleased and axed him from the first-team squad for the rest of the season. Guendouzi was loaned out to Hertha last summer and it is now reported that he may not play another game for the Gunners as he is not in...

Mikel Arteta wants to bring £31.5m French star to Arsenal this summer

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has identified RB Leipzig’s Ibrahima Konate as one of the top central defensive targets ahead of this summer’s transfer window, Standard Sport reports. The north London side have experienced another poor Premier League campaign, and they are eight points off the Champions League places with 12 matches left in the season. Five teams are between them and the fourth spot, and their best chance of qualifying for the elite competition may rest on winning the Europa League. In a press conference yesterday, Arteta said that the club are already planning for the summer, and it is now reported that they are monitoring Konate with a view to a move. The same report suggests that David Luiz, Calum Chambers and Kostas Mavropanos could also head through the exit door as part...

10 VAR decisions that show Arsenal, Liverpool & other PL clubs are right in asking for better refereeing

The introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in 2019 was heralded as a massive step forward for the Premier League. The days where controversial decisions were made were supposed to become a thing of the past, and football would be a better place for it.
