The crypto trader behind the $110 million exploit of decentralized exchange Mango Markets has been arrested in Puerto Rico — and charged with market manipulation and fraud. According to a previously sealed complaint filed with the Southern District of New York and made public on Dec. 27, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) pinned Avraham Eisenberg with one count commodities fraud and one count of commodities manipulation in relation to his exploit of Mango Markets. Eisenberg’s Oct. 11 exploit of Mango Markets worked by manipulating the value of the platform’s native token, MNGO, artificially inflating its price relative to USD Coin (USDC). Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder and former CEO of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange and founder of trading firm Alameda Research has been arrested by authorities in The Bahamas. A Dec. 12 statement from the Bahamas Attorney General (AG) and Minister of Legal Affairs, Ryan Pinder, states Bankman-Fried was arrested by the Royal Bahamas Police Force following a formal notification from the United States government that it has filed criminal charges against the FTX founder. The U.S. will likely request the extradition of Bankman-Fried. Pinder states The Bahamas will “promptly” process any extradition request by U.S. authorities. Three people have been arrested for stealing cellphones at the 2022 edition of EDC Orlando, according to police. Detectives are now searching for the owners of over 70 phones recovered after detaining the individuals. The Orlando Police Department said they seized a backpack containing the stolen phones. Police didn’t release the suspects’ names but said the launch of an investigation and ensuing “proactive steps” led them to the arrests. They’re now encouraging the public to use EDC Orlando’s “Lost & Found” submission hub to retrieve the phones. Despite some crappy things that went down at this year’s Burning Man, police are reporting one of the tamest years in the event’s history in terms of its criminal activity. The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office, which works with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to ensure the safety of Burning Man’s attendees, reported just 16 arrests. That’s down from 58 arrests at last year’s iteration. According to SFGATE, charges included battery of substantial bodily harm, domestic battery, possession of controlled substance, obstructing of a police officer, possession of paraphernalia and sales of controlled substance, among others.
