Ghost’s Tobias Forge Talks Arena Rock, Jack the Ripper, and the Band’s Next Album
Ghost are the rare band that formed in the past 15 years to graduate to arena headliners. In fact, the Swedish metal act is about to embark on its latest massive tour, playing North American arenas with support from Mastodon and Spiritbox. The outing kicks off Friday (August 26th) in San Diego, and runs through a September 23rd show in Green Bay, Wisconsin, with tickets available via Ticketmaster. The new run follows up an early 2022 US tour that saw Ghost co-headlining with Volbeat, and playing their first shows since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the concert industry. Ghost Unveil New Album IMPERA: Stream
Swedish metal titans Ghost have released their highly anticipated fifth studio album, IMPERA. IMPERA features Ghost mastermind Tobias Forge (aka Papa Emeritus IV) expanding the band’s sound, with a big nod to ’70s arena rock like Kansas, Styx, and Foreigner to go along with the classic metal foundation on which Ghost was built. Prior to its release, the album was previewed by singles “Hunter’s Moon,” “Call Me Little Sunshine,” and “Twenties,” while Ghost debuted another new track, “Kaisarion,” during their just-wrapped co-headlining US tour with Volbeat. KISS singer-bassist Gene Simmons made headlines several years ago when he declared that “rock is finally dead.” He recently doubled down on that sentiment just before the band played a streaming New Year’s Eve show to ring in 2021. At the time of his initial statement in 2014, he explained in an Esquire feature, “Once you had a record company on your side, they would fund you, and that also meant when you toured they would give you tour support. … There are still record companies, and it does apply to pop, rap, and country to an extent. Gene Simmons on His New G² Gibson Collection, Restarting KISS’ Final Tour, and More
KISS singer-bassist Gene Simmons is not only a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame musician, but a merchandizing master. His band set the template for rock branding, and now he’s combining his knowledge of music and merch with a new line of Gibson guitars and basses, dubbed G² (pronounced “G-squared”). The G² collection sees Simmons partnering with Gibson on a new line of right-handed and left-handed guitars and basses, spanning across the company’s owned and operated brands Gibson, Epiphone, and Kramer.
