NBS: Inflation rises to 12.34 percent in April
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures inflation, increased by 12.34 per cent year-on-year in April 2020. The NBS made this known in its latest CPI and Inflation Report for the month of April released on Thursday. It stated that this figure showed 0.08 per cent points higher than the rate recorded in March 2020 which was 12.26 percent. It explained that month-on-month basis, the headline index increased by 1.02 per cent in April 2020 and this was 0.18 per cent rate higher than the rate recorded in March 2020 which was 0.84 per cent. Customs intercept N13 million bales of clothes on train

Newborn baby tests positive for coronavirus in Russia
A baby was born with the coronavirus in Russia’s Caucasus region, health officials were quoted by TASS news agency as saying on Sunday, to a mother who is also infected. The birth in the North Ossetia city of Beslan follows one in mid-April in Peru, which health officials there said was the second known case of a COVID-19 positive newborn worldwide. A journalist with the Imo State government has been suspended indefinitely from her job for taking to Facebook to request her three months unpaid salary and the wages of her co-workers. Officials said the Facebook post was an “embarrassment” to the Imo State government. The suspended journalist, Vivian Ottih, is a lawyer and a senior editor with the government-owned IBC Orient FM radio station. She is the chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), in Imo State. Federal, states, local government share N606 billion for April
The three tiers of government on Friday shared about N606.196 billion as federal allocation for April 2020. Details of the allocation were contained in a Secretariat report released by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation at the end of the online meeting of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) in Abuja. The meeting was presided by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mahmoud Isa-Dutse.
