In a brand phishing attack, cybercriminals try to imitate the official website of a well-known brand by using a similar domain name or URL and web page design to the genuine site. The link to the fake website can be sent to target individuals by email or text message, a user can be redirected during web browsing, or it may be triggered by a fraudulent mobile application. The fake website often contains a form intended to steal users’ credentials, payment details or other personal information. Apple Music pays one penny per stream

Engadget Apple Music’s payment rate for artists and labels is fundamentally a penny per stream, according to a letter from the company posted on its artist dashboard and first reported by the Wall Street Journal. That payment rate is higher than Spotify, which has a confusing variable rate scheme that basically tops out at a half-penny per stream. Announcing a penny-per-stream rate is a nice PR win for Apple Music, since it is 1. very simple and 2. Spotify hates talking about its per-stream payments, which the company insists are a misleading figure. Seriously, it just launched an entire website called Loud&Clear last month designed to help artists and fans understand how payments work, and a good chunk of it is devoted to explaining why per-stream rates are not the right thing to focu...

Beer Run tells Donohue’s story of leaving New York in 1967 to bring beer to his childhood buddies in the Army while they were fighting in Vietnam. Donohue went through tremendous lengths to accomplish his goal, as he hitched a ride on a Merchant Marine ship and then carried the beer through the jungle while trying ...

Apple discontinuing two configurations of its 21.5 inch iMac

Apple recently discontinued the iMac Pro, and two configurations of the 21.5-inch iMac are now joining the Pro in retirement. As spotted by MacRumors, the 512GB and 1TB SSD configurations of the 21.5-inch iMac are no longer available for purchase, with only the 256GB SSD and 1TB Fusion drive versions available to buy on Apple’s website. Both configurations appeared unavailable for purchase on Apple’s website as of last month, but at the time it was not clear if that was a supply issue or a permanent discontinuation of the two options. But now both the 512GB and 1TB SSD options are gone from the iMac configuration page, MacRumors notes. A big iMac redesign has been rumored in the works for some time. Apple is expected to replace the 27-inch and 21.5-inch versions of the iMac with a redesign...

Apple Expected to Unveil a Foldable iPhone

Image sourced from 9to5Mac Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo believes the tech company could launch its first foldable iPhone by 2023, but only if it can “solve the foldable mobile device’s key technology”. The iPhone is expected to be between 7.5-8-inches when unfolded, making it larger than the iPhone 12 Pro Max. According to 9to5Mac, a foldable form factor will be “the most radical change to the iPhone since the introduction of the iPhone X — when the company redesigned the entire phone with an edge-to-edge display without a Home button”. Source: Apple / iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini It hasn’t been a year yet since the release of the iPhone 12, but we are already talking about the iPhone 13 and what to expect from Apple’s forthcoming new flagship smartphone model. Tech YouTuber Filip Koroy (EverythingApple Pro) linked up with Max Weinbach, a well-known leaker, and revealed that the iPhone 13 would be sporting some major upgrades. Weinbach tells Koroy that Apple will “refine” the matte back on the iPhone 13 Pro model with a “more grippy textured back that will be slightly more comfortable [to hold],” taking cues from Google’s Pixel smartphone, which already sports a similar design feature. Weinbach also notes that the iPhone 13’s chassis “will not be changing, so overall the same look at the iPhone 12 lineup.” Another upgrade...

Apple’s App Store hosting multi-million dollar scams – developer

Mobile app developer Kosta Eleftheriou has a new calling that goes beyond software development: taking on what he sees as a rampant scam problem ruining the integrity of Apple’s App Store. Eleftheriou, who created the successful Apple Watch keyboard app FlickType, has for the last two weeks been publicly criticizing Apple for lax enforcement of its App Store rules that have allowed scam apps, as well as apps that clone popular software from other developers, to run rampant. These apps enjoy top billing in the iPhone marketplace, all thanks to glowing reviews and sterling five-star ratings that are largely fabricated, he says. Up to now, I’ve been in the “Apple *wants* to do the right thing” camp. My viewpoint is starting to change. How to spot a $5M/year scam on the @AppS...

Apple says iPhone 12’s may Interfere with Medical Devices

Apple has revealed that the magnets in its iPhone 12 devices could interfere with medical devices. In a blog post, the tech giant says that “[iPhones] contain magnets as well as components and radios that emit electromagnetic fields. All MagSafe accessories (each sold separately) also contain magnets—and MagSafe Charger and MagSafe Duo Charger contain radios. These magnets and electromagnetic fields might interfere with medical devices.” Apple goes on to reveal that devices, like implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, might contain sensors that respond to magnets and radios when in close contact. “To avoid any potential interactions with these devices, keep your iPhone and MagSafe accessories a safe distance away from your device (more than 6 inches / 15 cm apart or more than 12 inches /...
