Bayelsa election: Governor Diri, INEC ask appeal court to reverse tribunal’s judgment

Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State on Thursday in Abuja asked the Court of Appeal to reverse the decision of the Bayelsa Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which nullified the November 16, 2019 governorship poll in the state. Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have also approached the appellate court asking it to reverse the tribunal’s judgement. In their separate appeals, the appellants prayed the court to uphold that the conduct of the governorship election and its outcome which produced Mr Diri as governor complied with relevant laws. Kapri, had his appeal shot down by a panel of judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit according to exclusive details obtained by BOSSIP. Black, 22, filed the appeal on the basis of getting his sentence shorted due to the fact his side believes the judge who handed out the original sentence was out of line. The complicated legal matter stems from Black’s designation as a convicted felon, this after he pleaded no contest to a strong-arm robbery case in Florida that did not end in a conviction thus sealing the case. ICC allows Ivory Coast ex-president Laurent Gbagbo to leave Belgium

Ivory Coast’s former president Laurent Gbagbo can leave Belgium under certain conditions, the International Criminal Court said on Thursday, following his acquittal last year over post-election violence that killed 3 000 people. Gbagbo, the first head of state to stand trial in The Hague, and his deputy Charles Ble Goude were cleared in early 2019 of crimes against humanity – eight years after the former West African strongman’s arrest and transfer to the court. Belgium had agreed to host Gbagbo after he was released under strict conditions, including his return to court for a prosecution appeal against his acquittal.
