St. Vincent Debuts ‘Down’ Video Ahead of Daddy’s Home Release

With “Down,” the latest video from St. Vincent’s upcoming Daddy’s Home album, which has been described as “the grit of 1970s vinyl meets the grain of 1970s celluloid.” Co-directed by St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) and Bill Benz, the “Down” clip sees St. Vincent careening through a narrative in a seedy hotel, with scenes of reel-to-reel tape machines and ominous shadowy figures in the hallway adding to the mystery. “Down” follows “Pay Your Way In Pain” and “The Melting Of The Sun” — both performed on St. Vincent’s recent return to Saturday Night Live — as the final song to be released ahead of Daddy’s Home’s arrival. Check out the dramatic clip for “Down” below. [embedded content] Daddy’s Home will be out May 14 (this Friday) via Loma Vista Recordings, which she anno...

St. Vincent Initially Aimed for a Tool-Like Heaviness for Her Latest Record

Last week, St. Vincent announced that she is going to released her new album, Daddy’s Home in May. In a new interview, Annie Clark recently revealed that the initial sonic goal for her most recent record was to create a super-heavy album. “Just heavy the whole time — like, ‘Hey kids, you like Tool? Well, you’ll love the St. Vincent record,’ you know?” That said, Clark found she had “nothing to say there” after working in that direction for a bit, and the ultimate result was Daddy’s Home, self-described as “music made in New York from 1971-76.” The LP drops May 14. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,”width”:”480″...

St. Vincent Digs Up Backstage Cover of Tool’s ‘Forty Six & 2′

St. Vincent’s Annie Clark reminisced about a simpler era in a recent Instagram post, sharing an old video featuring a backstage solo cover of Tool’s “Forty Six & 2.” Watch below. The brief clip was captured prior to a gig promoting 2017’s MASSEDUCTION. It shows her pulling off an impressive double-duty: singing while plucking the knotty riff on acoustic guitar. “TOOL as preshow warm-up during MASSEDUCTION solo tour,” she wrote in a caption. “Pink bunnysuit hanging in background. Will always love this band. Miss you guys.” Clark is a noted Tool fan. During a BBC Radio 6 appearance in 2018, she played both “Forty Six & 2″ and Pantera’s “Cowboys From Hell” when asked which riffs she wishes she’d ...
