<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-05-19T20:05:04+00:00“>May 19, 2021 | 4:05pm ET Quick, to the Bat-Remote! Superstar directors J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves are developing a new animated series called Batman: Caped Crusader. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, it’s found a streaming home on HBO Max alongside the forthcoming cartoon My Adventures with Superman. Joined by DC animation legend Bruce Timm (the man behind the iconic Batman: The Animated Series), Caped Crusader is said to be a “reimagining of the Batman mythology” –although, based on the first poster, it’s still about a man who dresses like a bat. Instead, this seems to refer to a shift in perspective and tone. In a joint statement...

Fox Orders New Dan Harmon Animated Series Set in Ancient Greece

Dan Harmon, the off-kilter comedy mind behind Community and Rick and Morty, will be taking his talents to ancient Greece. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has given a series order to Harmon’s new animated series and put it on the schedule for 2022. The as-yet untitled show will feature all sorts of strange things out of mythology, including Olympic deities, monstrous creatures, and a functioning democracy. Reportedly, it “centers on a family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.” In a statement, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn spoke about the show’s “irreverent” tone and satirical ambitions, writing, “Leave it to Dan Harmon to turn the mythos of early Greek civilization into remarkably sharp commentary ...

Animated Game of Thrones Series in the Works at HBO Max

The Seven Kingdoms of Westeros may be getting drawn anew — and we’re not talking about maps. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that an animated Game of Thrones series is being developed for HBO Max. While the dramatic cartoon is only in the very earliest of stages, WarnerMedia is apparently already in talks with writers about the potential series. THR notes the plan is to make the show “similar in tone to HBO’s Emmy-winning flagship” live-action series. The news comes as HBO is increasingly intent on expanding the fantasy world created by George R.R. Martin. After a number of potential spin-offs were floated initially, the prequel series House of the Dragon starring Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, and Matt Smith is currently in production with a targeted 2022 release date. The premium network...

Denmark Launches Children’s TV Show About Man with Giant, Uncontrollable Penis

Danish TV show John Dillermand is about a man with a very long penis, photo via DR TV The Danes sure do it differently — sex education, that is. Last Saturday, Denmark’s national broadcasting company premiered a new children’s TV show about a man with an extraordinarily long and uncontrollable penis. Created by DR, the country’s equivalent of the BBC, in collaboration with actual sex educators, the animated series follows John Dillermand, said to be the world’s most well endowed man. The titular character often uses his record-breaking phallus as a helpful tool to overcome various challenges (taming lions), as well as complete everyday tasks (outdoor BBQing, as seen above). However, there are certain instances when his penis, acting completely independently of Dillermand, gets him in ...

Animaniacs Bring Chaos to Jurassic Park in First Look at Reboot: Watch

Hulu was so preoccupied asking whether they could reboot the classic kids’ series Animaniacs that they didn’t stop to ask whether they should. Now, in the first look teaser trailer, Yakko, Wakko, and Dot are overrunning an animated Jurassic Park. The show originally aired from 1993 through 1998. Produced by Steven Spielberg, it followed incarnations of the Warner Brothers themselves, as well as the Warner Sister. 13 all-new episodes are coming to Hulu starting November 20th, and 13 more are expected in 2021. Spielberg returns as executive producer, and his presence comes with certain parodic perks. Jurassic Park is fair game in the new teaser trailer, which finds cartoon representations of Sam Neill and Laura Dern grappling with the titular maniacs. The short clip opens with...

The X-Files Animated Comedy Show in the Works at Fox

Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are two of the all-time best detectives in the supernatural TV game, but there’s some cases in The X-Files world too weird for the duo to tackle — or at least that’s what executives have dreamed up. Hence the creation of The X-Files: Albuquerque, a new spin-off series at Fox that will follow a team of agents who handle the projects Mulder and Scully don’t have time for. According to Variety, The X-Files: Albuquerque is an animated comedy show that’s already quietly in development. Creator Chris Carter is onboard as the executive producer of the show, Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko are writing the script and executive producing, and Gabe Rotter — who worked on The X-Files revival — will also executive produce. Bento Box will provide animation. Unfortunately...

Jenny Slate Leaves Big Mouth so a Black Actor Can Voice Her Character Instead

Netflix’s animated series Big Mouth is experiencing a new growth spurt. After spending three seasons voicing the role of Missy, a biracial tween, Jenny Slate has stepped down from the role so that a Black voice actor can have it instead. Slate revealed her decision earlier today in a lengthy statement posted to Instagram. In the post, she explains that she initially believed it was “permissible” to voice Missy in the Emmy-nominated series because the character’s mother is Jewish and white, which Slate herself is in real life. “But Missy is also Black, and Black characters on an animated show should be played by Black people,” her statement reads. Slate then acknowledges that she was “engaging in an act of erasure of Black people” and that both her receiving the role and her decision to acc...

Adult Swim Revives Tuca & Bertie for Season 2

Tuca & Bertie officially have their wings back. Season 2 of the animated anthropomorphic sitcom has been revived by Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. Created by Lisa Hanawalt, a producer and illustrator on BoJack Horseman, Tuca & Bertie enjoyed just one season on Netflix before being canceled July 2019. The pulling of the plug came as a shock, as the TV series earned rave reviews right from the get-go. At the time, Hanawalt blamed the cancellation on Netflix’s reliance on algorithm data. “T&B is critically acclaimed and has repeatedly been called one of the best new shows of the year,” she said. “None of this makes a difference to an algorithm, but it’s important to me and the way I want to continue making art in this world.” Adult Swim, the proud home of Rick and Morty, ...

The Weeknd Guests on American Dad, Performs New Song “I’m a Virgin”: Watch

Throughout his entire discography, The Weeknd dishes on his salacious, sex-fueled nights and his luxe life of fancy cars and mansions. For his latest project, however, the Canadian R&B singer is looking to change that narrative, if for just 30 minutes. Abel Tesfaye co-wrote and starred in the newest episode of Seth MacFarlane’s American Dad. Titled “A Starboy is Born” (referencing his Starboy album from 2016), it sees the artist show his true colors — and it’s a stark contrast from the rich playboy we’ve all come to know. Kidnapped by Roger the Alien, The Weeknd settles into the Smith family household surprisingly quickly, reveling in homemade lasagna, mundane house chores, and suburban pleasantries. “I miss being around boring people like this family,” he says at the dinner table. The...
