Wanda Sykes and Amy Schumer Say They’re “Traumatized” by Will Smith Slapping Chris Rock

Wanda Sykes and Amy Schumer both say they are “traumatized” from watching Will Smith slap Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards. In an excerpt from an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show airing later this week, Sykes expressed her disappointment with the Academy for not escorting Smith out of the venue. “I just felt so awful for my friend Chris,” Sykes said. “And it was sickening, absolutely sickening. I physically felt ill, and I’m still a little traumatized by it… And for them to let him stay in that room and enjoy the rest of the show and accept his award, I was like, ‘How gross is this? This is just the wrong message.’” Advertisement Related Video Sykes continued: “We were the hosts, right? So this is our house, we’re inviting you in, we’re the hosts, we’re gonna take care of...

In their joint opening monologue after Beyoncé’s remote performance of “Be Alive” from King Richard, the comedians landed laughs about everything from the Best Picture nominees to the scandal-ridden Golden Globes. “I watched that movie three times, and I’m halfway through it,” Sykes deadpanned about 12-time nominee The Power of the Dog, before Schumer hilariously murdered that other awards show with, “Know what’s in the In Memoriam package this year? The Golden Globes.” Advertisement Related Video Sykes also couldn’t resist a barbed shout-out to Florida amid the state’s ongoing efforts to pass the d...

I personally cast him in one of my plays in the early 2000’s. “I feel like…Going through that with somebody, you bare yourself pretty quick. We had a sensibility about each other that we were attracted to in acting class, of like, ‘I like their sensibilities. Let’s talk about doing stuff. I respect what they think more than anyone, so they’ll give me insight that no one else will or tell me the truth like no one else will.’ We really became family like that.” Close friends and creative partners ever since, they make success look so easy. All of their collaborations turn to gold: their theatre com...
