Oyo governor urges council chiefs to strengthen intelligence gathering in their areas
Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged local government chairmen in the state to upscale intelligence gathering in their respective council areas. A statement issued on Wednesday in Ibadan by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa, quoted Makinde as stating this while closing a two-day retreat for local government chairmen, vice-chairmen and heads of local government administrations (HLAs), on Tuesday evening. South-west governors urged to strengthen Amotekun to prevent attacks
The protem chairman of the Coalition of Yoruba Liberation Movement, Yemi Farounbi, has called on south-west governors to strengthen the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun. He said Amotekun operatives need to be “heavily fortified” so that they can repel the attacks of bandits. Farounbi’s message was contained in a press release which was read at an event held in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, to mark Democracy Day. Two killed as robbers attack bullion van in Ondo
Two persons were on Thursday feared dead at Elemosho Village along Akure-Ondo expressway in Ondo East Local Government Area of Ondo State when armed robbers attacked a bullion van on the road. An eyewitness said the robbers waylaid and attacked the billion van belonging to one the commercial banks. The bullion van according to the source was heading towards Akure, the state capital. It was gathered that the robbers made away with an undisclosed sum of money, while some people were also injured. The eyewitness said, in the operation which lasted for about 20 minutes, the robbers shot three people and ran away into the bush . Two ‘killed’, one injured as robbers attack bullion van in Ondo
Two persons were feared killed while one was injured as bank robbers attacked a bullion van at Bolorunduro area in Ondo East council area of Ondo state. An unspecified amount of money were reportedly carted away by the robbers numbering over eight. The robbery attack occurred at about 5:30pm. Eyewitness account said that the robbers who came in two vehicles including a Lexus car ambushed the bullion van at Elemoso village along Akure/ Ondo highway. Amotekun evicts another 137 northerners from Ondo forest
No fewer than 137 northerners have again been evicted from the forest reserves in Ondo state by the state security outfit codenamed Amotekun. Those evicted were occupying the Elegbeka forest reserves along Ifon-Owo road. Speaking with newsmen in Akure, the state commander of Amotekun, Chief Adetunji Adeleye said that their continued occupation of the forest reserve was a security threat to the state. ‘Fulani herdsmen’ clash with Amotekun officials, vigilantes in Oyo
Three people have sustained injuries following a bloody clash between Fulani and Yoruba at Aba Abugudu Market in the Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State. It was gathered that two officials of Amotekun and a vigilante were injured during the fight which happened on Monday, March 1. According to newsmen, the Amotekun operatives identified as Michael Oguntade and Yekini Tijani and the vigilante were trying to break the fight when a Fulani man drew out his cutlass and attacked them and inflicted varying degrees of injuries on them. The Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, in Oyo State said yesterday that it arrested four suspected Kidnappers in the Ibarapa, area of the state. The group, under the supervision of its state coordinator, Mr Rotimi Olumo, said it made huge progress with the arrest of the second in command to the dreaded kidnapper, Wakilu, Isiaka Muhammadu was also arrested. The Ondo State Security Network also known as Operation Amotekun has announced the arrest of persons involved in illegal gold mining activities in the state. The suspects, according to the commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, were arrested at different locations in Owo forest reserves on Sunday. A leader of Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State, Tajudeen Salaudeen, has reportedly died in an accident. He was said to have crashed his motorcycle when trying to avoid a pothole on Thursday at Sawmill area, on Ilero road.
