Disclosure Captures Pure Creative ‘Energy’ on Third Album

When was the last time you tapped into a state of flow? It’s magical being swept up in the moment, a hypnotic trance where your nerves light an electric fire and the spirit of creation speaks through you. You’ve gotta bottle it like lightning, which for Disclosure, means writing 200 songs and whittling them down to 11 that are released today (Aug. 28) as the duo’s third album Energy. “That was the plan from the start, write a shitload of music and pick the absolute cream of the crop,” Guy Lawrence tells SPIN. “By cream of the crop I mean, the ones that were the most enjoyable to make; the easiest to make, where there wasn’t 20 versions of the same song. That’s what we’re referring to with this Energy idea. They are uplifting, big, positive, happy tunes … but the energy we’re talking about ...

Disclosure Dazzles on Star-Studded Third LP “ENERGY,” Featuring Kehlani, Common, Aminé and More

Ten years after the release of their first single, “Offline Dexterity,” UK-act Disclosure are releasing their most accomplished work to date. Following the success of 2016’s Caracal, the duo took a year off to soak in life and allow the music to come to them. The result is today’s release of the 11-track album ENERGY, via Capitol Records. Disclosure have garnered nearly five billion streams and five million album sales to date, but on this third album, they prove their art is well beyond chart comparison and destined for longevity. Disclosure originates from Reigate, Surrey, England, but since their debut 2013 album Settle and its follow up, Caracal, were respectively nominated for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the Grammy Awards, they’ve spent mu...

Aminé Drops New Single With Young Thug, Announces Upcoming Album

Back with the Young Thug-featuring single “Compensating,” genre shape-shifter Aminé is looking to give us the summer we so desperately deserve and has some big plans in mind.  The track, which released Monday morning, finds Portland’s hip-hop hero admitting his wrongs and throwing them over a poppy instrumental produced by Canada’s T-Minus.  And when Thug makes two separate Daffy Duck references in a song, it’s only clear that summer has truly begun.  With the new single dropping, Aminé also announced his latest studio album Limbo, as his first full-length project since 2018’s ONEPOINTFIVE. The record will feature the rapper’s recent track “Shimmy” and his latest Bad Gal anthem “Riri.” The album is set to drop on Aug. 7 with a presave available here.  Listen t...

Disclosure Drops New Hip-House Single and Video, “My High” with Aminé and slowthai

The hype surrounding Disclosure‘s forthcoming Energy LP is on the cusp of bubbling over. As the duo prepares for the August 28th, 2020 release of their third studio album, they have dropped the curtain on one of its most ballyhooed collaborations. The Grammy-nominated tandem today revealed Energy cut “My High,” a rollicking hip-house tune featuring renowned British hip-hop artist slowthai and blossoming “Caroline” rapper Aminé. In a press release issued to announce the track’s unveiling, Disclosure waxed poetic about their desire to work with more rappers. “We always wanted to work with rappers, we just didn’t know any and we had no means of contacting them… there aren’t a lot of rappers in Reigate,” the...

Aminé Goes on a Quarantine Cruise in ‘Riri’ Video

Aminé’s “Riri” video may not feature Rihanna herself, as he joked on Twitter, but that doesn’t make the visuals any less stunning. In the video, which was released on Wednesday, Aminé pokes his head out of a white convertible and cruises around mansions in Los Angeles. Co-directed by the rapper and Jack Bergert and featuring a cameo from sports broadcaster Taylor Rooks, the video also cuts to Black women vibing to the track in quarantine, with Riri’s Savage X Fenty products being featured. “We shot this video before the murder of George Floyd and my knowledge of the Breonna Taylor case,” Aminé writes. “But I felt compelled to delay its release for obvious reasons.” “Activism is essential right now so I put my focus there for the past few weeks. We skipped editing sessions to marc...
