Last weekend, Foo Fighters debuted their new song “Shame Shame” on Saturday Night Live. Now, the Dave Grohl-led outfit has unveiled an accompanying music video. Additionally, the veteran rockers have announced a new concert event to be streamed live from the Roxy in Hollywood on Saturday, November 14th. The video for “Shame Shame” was directed by Paola Kudacki and features the Algerian-French actress and dancer Sofia Boutella (The Mummy, Atomic Blonde, the Kingsman franchise). With angular dancing and moody lighting, the visuals represent burdens of shame and guilt. In one particularly memorable sequence, Grohl uses a guitar to dig his own grave. According to a statement, it represents a recurring dream that Grohl has had since his childhood. Check out the video below. As fo...
Last month, Gorillaz unveiled the audio portion of the first season of their audiovisual project, Song Machine. But some visuals are still coming down the pipeline, and that includes the newly-released music video for “The Valley of the Pagans” featuring Beck. Gorillaz love to combine live-action and animated footage, but “The Valley of the Pagans” is more animated than most. It shows 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel cruising around a CGI Los Angeles while driving a low-rider called a Pagan. The song blasts out of the speakers, and when it comes time for Beck to chime in, he appears on something called a Fruit phone. Honestly, it looks like it was recorded over FaceTime in about the time it takes to listen to the song, but the device (plot and cellular) works; th...
Paris Jackson, the only daughter of Michael Jackson, has unveiled her debut solo single. What’s more, Jackson will release her first full-length album, Wilted, on November 13th through Republic Records. Entitled “Let Down”, the single was written by Paris herself and produced by Manchester Orchestra’s Andy Hull. The accompanying visuals were produced by Eli Roth and directed by Meredith Alloway, and are said to be a nod to legendary fashion designer Alexander McQueen. “I feel so many emotions. I’m excited, I’m nervous, mostly grateful and happy,” Paris says in a statement discussing the song’s release. “The freedom to create, not being told what to sing and how to sing it, what to write; it’s awesome. It’s a gift, it’s a blessing.” Earlier this year, Jackson and former partner, Gabrie...

While remote performances are par for the course these days, leave it to Gorillaz to find a unique and innovative way to promote the newly released first season of their audiovisual project, Song Machine. The band appeared on the latest episode of Animal Talking, the real-life talk show hosted by Gary Whitta within the video game world of Animal Crossing. There, they delivered a performance of their Beck collaboration “The Valley Of The Pagans”. Because of the limitations of Animal Crossing, only Gorillaz’s 2D and Beck were able to appear inside the Animal Talking studio for the performance. Also, somewhat hilariously, the cartoon band received their very own cartoon avatars, which makes sense but also feels equivalent to dressing up a cat like a cat for Halloween. Prio...

While Phoebe Bridgers has set the gold standard for pandemic-era digital performances, the Punisher singer knows the importance of physical music venues. On Saturday, she joined Foo Fighters and Miley Cyrus at #SOSFest, an online festival raising money for venues impacted by the pandemic. Performing from the Troubadour in Los Angeles, Bridges and her band delivered a seven-song set with help from a few special guests. Conor Oberst joined Bridgers for the Punisher track “Halloween” and then stuck around for “Dylan Thomas” from the duo’s collaborative album as Better Oblivion Community Center. Christian Lee Hutson performed “Lose This Number” from his Bridgers-produced album Beginners, and Charlie Hickey got time under the spotlight to play one of his own song. Rounding out the setlist were ...
King Princess has returned with her first new song of 2020, “Only Time Makes It Human”. The title is a reference to the healing power of time; the track finds KP in the doldrums of unrequited love. Between earworm “Whoo la las,” she sings with painful self-awareness. It’s not just that it “sucks that I think about her/ ‘Cause thinking ’bout her leaves me lonely;” it’s that King Princess know she’ll turn this pain into a song, but somehow that doesn’t make it better. She croons, “Whoo, and I’ll keep selling all my problems/ And she’ll be the one who buys them/ Whoo, all of her love became an album/ And I’m still the one who’s crying.” Check out “Only Time Makes It Human” below. Our 2019 Rookie of the Year blew up on the strength of her debut album Cheap Queen, and earlier this year she rele...
