Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh Details His Brutal COVID-19 Recovery in New Interview

Last week, word leaked that Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh was rushed to the ICU in June due to a severe bout with COVID-19. Thankfully, he has since recovered. But in a new interview with The Los Angeles Times, Mothersbaugh has recounted the brutal 18 days he spent at Cedar-Sinai Hospital battling coronavirus in hopes that it may convince others to approach the pandemic, and the dark reality of its life-threatening effects, more cautiously. Mothersbaugh avoided in-person recording sessions after news of the pandemic spread, but he believes he contracted the virus in May after unintentionally coming into contact with a group of people who were at his music production company Mutato Musika. Björk’s Icelandic Concert Series Pushed Back to 2021

Coronavirus cases have begun to creep back up in Iceland, forcing Björk to push back her planned live concert series. Via Stereogum, the performances at Reykjavík’s Harpa Hall will now take place in January and February of 2021. The original concert announcements were born of unbridled optimism and national pride. Spike Lee Shares First Teaser for David Byrne’s American Utopia: Watch

Spike Lee has revealed the first teaser trailer for David Byrne’s American Utopia. The HBO production premieres Saturday, October 17th. Lee’s latest joint is based on Byrne’s 2019 Broadway show of the same name, which is itself inspire by Byrne’s most recent album American Utopia. The trailer shows off Lee’s kinetic camera work, capturing the movement of the 11 singers, dancers, and musicians accompanying Byrne. Choreography was provided by Annie-B Parson, and Lee portrays her movements from every angle — front, sides, above, and even behind, taking in the rears of the cast and the faces of the live audience. Today brings the release of a new David Bowie live album. Entitled Something in the Air (Live Paris 99), the 15-track LP captures an October 14th, 1999 performance at the Elysée Montmarte in Paris, France. The concert was notable for a number of reasons. To start, it occurred on the same day Bowie was awarded the Commandeurs of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, France’s highest artistic honor. It was also one of only seven shows performed in support of Bowie’s 1999 album, Hours.
