Mike Patton has once again opened up about his mental health struggles, revealing that he coped with alcoholism during the pandemic. In a new interview with The Guardian, Patton discussed the upcoming sophomore album from his hardcore-thrash supergroup Dead Cross, stating that it was “forged through COVID, cancer, and alcoholism.” Patton alluded to guitarist Mike Crain’s battle with squamous cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. Crain’s cancer eventually went into remission, with the guitarist crediting the making of the new Dead Cross album with helping save his life. Then the COVID pandemic happened, which sent Patton into a life of seclusion and solitude. Slipknot have unveiled the music video for their new song “Yen,” featuring both a masked and unmasked Corey Taylor. The eerie clip comes ahead of the band’s forthcoming album THE END, SO FAR and fall Knotfest Roadshow tour. The outing launches September 20th in Nashville and runs through October 7th in Irvine, California. Get tickets via Ticketmaster. “Yen” is the latest single from the aforementioned album, and the band’s own M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan directed the music video, which is as demented as it is decadent. Cutup vignettes of gothic imagery and psychedelic horror are mashed up to create a nightmarish seven-minute sequence. Clown makes prominent use of Slipknot’s primary colors, red and black, to add an unsettling visual atmosphere. Advertisement Related Video One notable tidbit is ...
Slipknot’s Iowa stands as one of the band’s landmark achievements and one of the finest alternative metal albums of all-time, due in large part to frontman Corey Taylor’s extreme vocal performances. A rare clip has now surfaced of Taylor recording a particularly brutal take for the song “Gently” back on March 10th, 2001. If you thought his screams were vicious on the album, hearing them isolated — sans reverb or effects — is even more jaw-dropping. The 45-second footage sees Taylor in the dark, candlelit studio, unleashing terrifying throat-shredding screams and guttural howls. They sound so intense, it’s a wonder Taylor didn’t damage his vocal cords in the process. Advertisement Related Video One of the top comments on the video reads, “Those screams sound so painful. Not in any kind of g...

Rage Against the Machine have embarked on their “Public Service Announcement Tour,” which the quartet launched last month at the Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin. The first leg is winding down with a five-night stand at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden, which began with a show on Monday night (August 8th). A UK/European run begins later this month, plus a second leg of US and Canadian shows is set for early 2023, with tickets available here. Monday night’s show at MSG saw Rage Against the Machine playing to a completely sold-out crowd. Still healing from a leg injury sustained during the band’s Chicag...
Drowning Pool are returning with the new album, Strike a Nerve, on September 30th. The band has also paid tribute to the late Pantera members Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul with the lead single “Mind Right.” Honoring their fellow Texans, the Dallas-based Drowning Pool wrote the song shortly after Vinnie Paul died in 2018. The tight groove-thrash riffing certainly has a Pantera lean, and the vocals of Jasen Moreno shift between harsh and melodic a la Phil Anselmo. “‘Mind Right’ started with the core Drowning Pool sound, then really dug into our southern metal roots,” remarked guitarist CJ Pierce. “This song was written not long after Vinnie Paul died, as a tribute of sorts to him and Dime and a way for us to to honor the impact Pantera had on our local Dallas scene.” Advertisement Related ...
