Broken Bells Detail New Album INTO THE BLUE, Share “Saturdays”: Stream
Broken Bells have announced their new album, INTO THE BLUE, is out on October 7th via AWAL. The musical duo of The Shins’ James Mercer and Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse) also shared the latest single “Saturdays.” INTO THE BLUE finds Broken Bells drawing influence from The Beatles and Pink Floyd, as well as pulling from genres ranging from ’60s psychedelia and ’70s rock and AM Gold to ’80s new wave and ’90s trip-hop. After returning with a pair of singles earlier this year, The Big Pink have announced their new album, The Love That’s Ours. Due out on September 30th via Project Melody Music, it will mark the indie rock band’s first new album in a decade. The Love That’s Ours was produced by Tony Hoffer — whose credits include Beck, Air, and Phoenix — and features The Big Pink’s current lineup of frontman Robbie Furze, drummer Akiko Matsuura, and the new addition of bass guitarist Charlie Barker. Drowning Pool Announce New Album, Honor Pantera’s Dimebag and Vinnie Paul with Single “Mind Right” Stream
Drowning Pool are returning with the new album, Strike a Nerve, on September 30th. The band has also paid tribute to the late Pantera members Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul with the lead single “Mind Right.” Honoring their fellow Texans, the Dallas-based Drowning Pool wrote the song shortly after Vinnie Paul died in 2018. The tight groove-thrash riffing certainly has a Pantera lean, and the vocals of Jasen Moreno shift between harsh and melodic a la Phil Anselmo. “‘Mind Right’ started with the core Drowning Pool sound, then really dug into our southern metal roots,” remarked guitarist CJ Pierce. “This song was written not long after Vinnie Paul died, as a tribute of sorts to him and Dime and a way for us to to honor the impact Pantera had on our local Dallas scene.” Advertisement Related ...

After sharing a pair of comeback singles, The Mars Volta are finally ready to release their first proper album in 10 years. Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López have announced a new self-titled album, due out on September 16th via Cloud Hill. In anticipation, a new song called “Vigil” is out now. The Mars Volta released their most recent album Noctourniquet in 2012 before Bixler-Zavala and Rodríguez-López went their separate ways. Whitmer Thomas has unveiled his new album, The Older I Get the Funnier I Was, as the follow-up to his March EP Can’t Believe You’re Happy Here. The Offering have announced their sophomore album, Seeing the Elephant, arriving November 4th via Century Media. The Boston thrashers also shared the video for lead single “WASP.” The track is one of the most extreme pieces of groove-oriented thrash we’ve heard this year. Ceaseless torrents of blast beats and technical riffs compliment the aggro growls of frontman Alexander Richichi, creating a sonic fray that waylays the listener. While the lyrics might be hard to make out, both the song and album have a political slant, having been written during the “warzone of cultural upheaval” that was 2020. Frankie Cosmos Announce New Album Inner World Peace, Share “One Year Stand”: Stream
Frankie Cosmos have graced us with news of their new album, Inner World Peace, arriving on October 21st via Sub Pop Records. The announcement comes along with the set’s first single, “One Year Stand.” The album’s development followed a “pandemic hiatus” that lasted nearly 500 days for the quartet. In the interim, bandleader Greta Kline wrote 100 songs, which upon reuniting, the group retooled and infused with their own influences that ranged from “70s folk and pop” to “ambient” and “psych.” Inner World Peace was co-produced by Frankie Cosmos with Nate Mendelsohn and Katie Von Schleicher, who also handled mixing.
