Pearl Jam, David Byrne + Devo, Maya Hawke, and More Contribute to Abortion Access Benefit Album
Pearl Jam, David Byrne + Devo, Maya Hawke, and a host of other artists have contributed to an abortion access benefit album available for 24 hours only starting Friday, October 7th at 12:00 a.m. PT via Bandcamp. 100% of the net proceeds from the charity compilation will benefit non-profit organizations working to provide abortion care access to all. Fitting titled Good Music to Ensure Safe Abortion Access to All, the album features previously unreleased recordings including never-before-heard new songs, covers, remixes, live versions, and unreleased demos. In addition to the aforementioned artists, it includes exclusive tracks from Sleater-Kinney, Tegan and Sara, Soccer Mommy, Wet Leg, and Cat Power. Kendrick Lamar Announces good kid, m.A.A.d city 10th Anniversary Edition
The 10th anniversary of good kid, m.A.A.d city is quickly approaching, and Kendrick Lamar is honoring the occasion with a special reissue of his legendary sophomore LP. For a limited time, good kid, m.A.A.d city will now be available with a special alternate cover, featuring the van from the original deluxe edition’s artwork against a solid black backdrop. As for the wax itself, the double-LP in this issue comes pressed on translucent black vinyl. Neil Young and Crazy Horse Announce New Album World Record, Share “Love Earth”: Stream
Neil Young has announced World Record, a new album from Crazy Horse, that’s out November 18th. What’s more, first single “Love Earth” is available to stream now. Young and Crazy Horse recorded World Record live at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La studio in Malibu, with Rubin mixing the project to analog tape to ensure it reached audiophile Young’s standards. In keeping with the artist’s love for quality, physical media, the album will be sold on a three-sided double vinyl with an etching on side four, as well as Young’s first-ever clear vinyl. Bruce Springsteen Announces New Album Only the Strong Survive
Bruce Springsteen will return on November 11th with a new album of classic soul and R&B covers. Entitled Only the Strong Survive, the album sees Springsteen put hit own spin on songs by Diana Ross and the Supremes (“Someday We’ll Be Together”), The Commodores (“Night Shift”), and Aretha Franklin (“Don’t Play That Song”). The 15-song tracklist also boasts covers of The Temptations (“I Wish It Would Rain”), The Four Tops (“When She Was My Girl”), The Walker Brothers (“The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore), Jerry Butler (“Western Union Man”), and Jimmy Ruffin (“What Becomes of the Brokenhearted.”) The album takes its name from Jerry Buttler’s 1968 song “Only The Strong Survive,” which leads off the tracklist. Paramore Announce New Album This Is Why, Share Title Track: Stream
Paramore have made their return official with the announcement of their new album, This Is Why. It’s out February 10th, 2023 via Atlantic Records and is previewed by the title track, which you can hear today. The 10-track follow-up to 2017’s After Laughter was recorded in Los Angeles with longtime collaborator Carlos de la Garza and features cover art shot by Zachary Gray. Everyone loves a two-parter, which is why actor-musician Caleb Landry Jones has announced Gadzooks Vol. 2, the appropriately titled follow up to 2021’s Gadzooks Vol. 1. The album is out November 4th via Sacred Bones, while first single “Touchdown Yolk” is available to stream now. Jones recorded Gadzooks Vol. 2 with Nic Jodoin and Drew Erickson at Los Angeles’ Valentine Recording Studios, the birthplace of records by The Beach Boys and Frank Zappa. For the most fervent of David Bowie fans, the 12 months leading up to the legend’s 1971 masterpiece Hunky Dory will soon be documented with the expansive box set Divine Symmetry, out November 25th via Parlophone. As a preview, you can hear an unearthed BBC Radio recording of “Kooks” today. Divine Symmetry comprises four CDs and one Blu-Ray that contain countless home demos, radio sessions, and live and studio recordings — including 48 that have just been unveiled for the first time. Spoon are keeping the momentum going on their latest album Lucifer on the Sofa with a full-album rework called Lucifer on the Moon, with all remixes done by Adrian Sherwood. Before the full album is out November 4th, the Austin band have shared a preview today with the new version of “On the Radio.” Spoon’s initial plan was to have Sherwood remix only a few tracks off Lucifer on the Sofa.
