Newcastle United news: Alan Shearer reacts to the heavy defeat on Sunday

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer made his feelings known on social networking site Twitter after the Magpies suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat at Leicester City.  The 51-year-old used the word ‘RUBBISH’ to give his verdict on Sunday’s heavy defeat at the King Power Stadium.  And considering the awful display of the away side, many of the Newcastle fans will agree with the former England international.  The Tyneside club suffered the first goal in the 38th minute after Youri Tielemens converted the controversial penalty which was given for Jamaal Lascelles’ challenge on James Maddison.  The second half was completely one sided as the Magpies failed to offer a threat and Liecester pounded several goals.  Tielemens added another goal while Maddison and Patson Daka...

Former England skipper wants brain tested for dementia signs

Former England striker Gary Lineker says he will get extra checks on his brain for signs of dementia. Research has found that former professional footballers are three and a half times more likely to die from a brain disorder than the general population. Already, an inquiry was launched by the UK parliament this month into sport’s link to dementia. Lineker, who has previously suggested a complete ban on heading in training, joined a radio programme for a Dementia in Football documentary. He revealed he and colleagues Alan Shearer and Ian Wright fear they could end up with a brain disorder. “I’ve had conversations with Alan Shearer and Ian Wright and others about the worry that, come 10, 15 years, that it might happen to one of us,” said the 60-year-old former England captain turned broadca...

‘Surprising’: Alan Shearer delivers honest verdict on Leeds after defeat vs Villa

Leeds United lost 1-0 against Aston Villa in the Premier League at Elland Road on Saturday. Anwar El Ghazi scored an early goal for Villa and Dean Smith’s side maintained the lead throughout. Villa were resolute at the back and Leeds failed to find a way to break them down. Once again, Leeds enjoyed loads of possession but surprisingly they failed to create enough clear-cut opportunities. Speaking to Premier League productions post-match (h/t Leeds Live), popular football pundit Alan Shearer has suggested what has surprised him about Leeds. “They had a gameplan, kicked it long and then played one or two-touch football in the final third and they never gave Leeds a chance to settle or get into the game,” he said. “Leeds were very flat, low on energy, which is surprising. “You have to say we...

Alan Shearer claims ‘sublime’ Spurs player wasn’t ‘100 percent’ vs West Brom

Former great Newcastle United striker turned popular football pundit Alan Shearer has showered praise on Harry Kane after Tottenham Hotspur won 2-0 against West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Sunday. The 27-year-old striker returned to action ahead of schedule after missing the previous two games with an ankle injury. Shearer was full of praise for the England striker and has hailed him as ‘sublime’. The former Newcastle striker told the BBC that he wasn’t entirely sure about whether Kane was fully fit for the game, adding he was very impressive against the Baggies. “What a performance he put in,” he told Match of the Day 2. “I don’t think he was 100 percent. There was a little bit of doubt in his mind there. So clever the movement for his goal. Big Sam will moan that he’s g...

It’s been nearly 13 weeks since the Premier League have started working on the Newcastle takeover owners test, and they are yet to come to a decision. According to reports from The Chronicle, The Premier League were expected to deliver their verdict on the bid last week, but that has not happened. Instead, with every passing day, new challenges are being brought up. Amidst all these, it is the club and the fans who are suffering the most. ‘Look back and regret it’: Alan Shearer reacts to Newcastle defeat vs Manchester City

Holders Manchester City will face Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final after beating Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday. Newcastle were completely outplayed in the first half. After missing several good opportunities, Manchester City opened the scoring from the penalty spot. Kevin de Bruyne, who was simply outstanding once again, slotted past Karl Darlow following Fabian Schar’s needless push on Gabriel Jesus. In the second half, Newcastle came out with a positive outlook. They pressed high up the pitch and created the best chance of the game. Dwight Gayle, who replaced Andy Carroll, wasted Newcastle’s best chance when he skied over from six yards following Allan Saint-Maximin’s low cross. Moments later, Raheem Sterling raced down the other end, drifted inside and found the bott...
