Olusola Oke: We’re not leaving APC

The consensus candidate of the Unity Group of the All Progressive Congress in Ondo State and the first runner up in the party governorship primary, Chief Olusola Oke, has said that himself and the group are not planning to leave the party but with some conditions. Speculation was rife that Oke was planning to defect to another party to contest for the October 10 governorship election after losing to governor Rotimi Akeredolu in the primary. Sheikh AbdulHakeem Yayi-Akorede, Chief Imam of Akure, Ondo State, has urged all politicians to embrace peace before, during and after the forthcoming governorship primary election Yayi-Akorede made the appeal while speaking with newsmen in Akure on Sunday as the political parties prepared for primary elections in the state. Ondo doctors withdraw services from infectious disease centre

The National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) in Ondo State has directed its members to withdraw their services from the state’s Infectious Disease Centre with immediate effect. The association said the directive became imperative due to government’s failure to meet their demands. The union had last month withdrawn the services of its members working in the employ of the state government following government failure to accede to their demands. Ondo records 30 new coronavirus cases in one week

File Photo Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has disclosed that the state recorded 30 new positive cases of COVID-19 in one week. Akeredolu made the disclosure on Monday in Akure during a press briefing on the deadly pandemic in the Government House. He said that 11 of the new cases were in Okitipupa Local Government Area, while seven were health workers, who contracted the virus at a private hospital in the area. “This is a frightening and embarrassing situation which tells us that COVID-19 is at our doorstep. “We have a total of 73 confirmed positive cases, 33 treated and discharged, 31 active cases and nine deaths. “Some arrests were made yesterday, while vehicles were also impounded because they were outside after the 7 p.m. curfew,” he said. Gunmen kidnap army captain, three others in Ondo, demand N20 million ransom

An Army Captain has been abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers along Auga/Akunnu highway in Akoko North-East Local Government of Ondo State. The Army Captain identified as D. Gana was abducted alongside three others. It was gathered that the kidnapped captain was on transit through the state from Abuja when the gunmen struck. The Auga/Akunnu highway in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of the state has been one of the flashpoints of kidnapping activities within the northern senatorial district of the state. Nigeria: 10 die of coronavirus in Kano, Ogun, three other states

No fewer than seven patients died of coronavirus-related complications in Kano and Ogun states on Friday. Three other patients also died of COVID-19 in Bauchi, Kaduna and Sokoto. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control made this known in its 70th Situation Report on COVID-19 published on Saturday. According to the report, 10 COVID-19 fatalities were recorded in the country as of 11.30 pm on Friday. The 10 new COVID-19 fatalities bring the total deaths recorded in the country to 117. Of the 117 fatalities, 33 died in Lagos, Kano, 18; FCT, four; Borno, 14; Katsina, eight; Bauchi, one; Ogun, four; Kaduna, two; Sokoto, nine; Jigawa, one; Edo, four; Zamfara, three; Oyo, two; Osun, four; Nasarawa, one; Rivers, two; Delta, three; Akwa Ibom, two; Yobe, one and Ekiti one.
