With a hattrick, Genesis Owusu was the big winner Thursday night (Aug. 4) at the 2022 AIR Awards in Adelaide, the annual ceremony that recognizes the best in Australia’s independent music community. DMA’S and Spacey Jane were multiple winners Thursday night (Aug. 5) at the 2021 AIR Awards, which recognize, promote and celebrate the success of Australia’s independent music sector. With three awards, DMA’S were dominant. With three nominations, Tones And I has a fine chance of taking home silverware at the 2020 AIR Awards, to be held Oct. 1 in Adelaide. Tones’ global hit “Dance Monkey” is up for independent song of the year, her debut EP The Kids are Coming is in the running for independent pop album or EP and she’s nominated for breakthrough independent artist of the year.
