Bodies might not be out for another couple of months, but that’s not stopping AFI from releasing yet another pair of new songs, as they did in January and February. The rock icons released both “Dulcería” and “Far Too Near” late Thursday night (or Friday morning, depending on where you live) with a brand new video for the former. Check out the video for “Dulcería” below. [embedded content] But perhaps the most noteworthy thing about “Dulcería” isn’t the video, but the collaborator that lifelong musical partners Davey Havok and Jade Puget brought in to help the band. Co-written by Billy Corgan, the track is basically a Noel Gallagher appearance short of the Smashing Pumpkins’ 2019 tour. “Billy and I have a great creative connection when we’re writing together,” Puget said in a statemen...
Last month, AFI announced that they’d be releasing their 11th studio album later this year and dropped a pair of new tracks, “Twisted Tongues” and “Escape From Los Angeles.” Davey Havok then confirmed that the album would be called Bodies on a podcast earlier this month, and the band has finally set a release date for it of June 11 (via Rise Records). In addition, AFI just released two more tracks, “Looking Tragic” and “Begging For Trouble,” as well as a new video for the former. Both tracks will also be included on a limited edition seven-inch ahead of the album release. “‘Looking Tragic’ addresses the theme of overstimulation resulting in desensitization,” vocalist Davey Havok said in a statement. “Melodic and driving, the song came to life quickly and immediately stood out as ...
AFI is back with their first new tunes since 2018’s The Missing Man EP ahead of the promised release of their upcoming album. After teasing earlier this month that their 11th studio album would be released by the end of the year, the quartet made good on their guarantee of new music “soon” by releasing “Twisted Tongues” and “Escape From Los Angeles” this morning. The two tracks pick up where the band left off following 2017’s self-titled release (also known as The Blood Album) and the aforementioned EP from the following year, with Davey Havok and his longtime crew fusing some experimental new steps into the tried and true AFI formula. It’s no surprise given the band’s evolution from borderline hardcore punk in the ’90s all the way through the emo movement of the 2000s and now bl...
Vodacom has joined forces with AFI to drive financial inclusion across Africa through knowledge sharing with financial policymakers and regulators. According to the companies, the partnership, which runs until October 2021, should enhance select AFI member services and platforms with private sector insights. “AFI members in Africa are among the world’s pioneers in mobile money services, having fostered decades of ground-breaking innovations that have shaped the financial inclusion landscape across the continent and beyond,” says Dr Alfred Hannig, AFI Executive Director. Regulators in the region have turned the current pandemic into opportunities to accelerate financial inclusion and ensure that no one is left behind. /* custom css */ .tdi_3_891.td-a-rec-img{ text-align: left; }.tdi_3_891.t...
The year 2000 looms large in pop culture history: the Y2k non-scare, the Seinfeld “Newmannium” episode, the “In the Year 2000″ sketch from Conan O’Brien’s original late-night show, the Hulu series PEN15. And just like, say, the grunge-defined 1991, the year immediately conjures specific sounds: gleaming teen-pop, earnest radio rock, the Neptunes and Timbaland. There’s never a bad time to revisit this music. But in the middle of a pandemic, with America on the verge of collapse, it feels extra comforting — a blast of nostalgia for a time when you could safely exit your home, visit your local mall’s Sam Goody and buy Mystikal’s “Shake Ya Ass” CD single. For this list, our only criteria was that the songs appear on albums or soundtracks released in 2000. Here we go. 50. Papa Roach, “Last Reso...
In proper 2020 fashion, Davey Havok And Jade Puget decided to release their next Blaqk Audio album only one part at a time. With its five-track Side A dropping Tuesday, the AFI members announced this week that they’ll share Beneath The Black Palms in its entirety on August 21. Their bouncy and eccentric “Hiss,” released yesterday, has since been coined their new single. And the duo paired the song with a luring YouTube visualizer. “‘Hiss’ is a lovely slice of noisy darkness,” Puget said in a statement. “Listen closely and you can hear the susurration of the palms.” The upcoming full-length was produced, recorded and mixed entirely by the duo. The record, which follows 2019’s Only Things We Love, follows a streak of four consecutive albums that topped Billboard’s Dance/Electr...
Getty Images Yaya Toure is backing former Ivory Coast team-mate Didier Drogba’s bid to become president of the Ivorian Football Association (FIF). The Chelsea legend announced he would be running for the post in September 2019, though his campaign took a major hit at the end of April. In a recent vote between former Ivory Coast players, 11 of the 14 votes went to current incumbent Sory Diabate. Drogba and current vice president Idriss Diallo won zero votes between them, with three former players withdrawing from the vote. “It’s time for change in our football. It needs modernity,” said Toure. “When I say I support Drogba, it’s also for the good of the country, to have a former player of his kind investing himself in Africa.” Drogba represented his country 105 times and announced his intent...
