Quentin Tarantino Confirms Adam Sandler Was Supposed to Play the Bear Jew in Inglorious Basterds

If Quentin Tarantino had his way, Adam Sandler would’ve played Donny Donowitz, otherwise known as the Bear Jew, in Inglorious Basterds. Tarantino and Judd Apatow appeared on a recent episode of Bill Maher’s Club Bastards podcast (per Variety), where the director confirmed he wrote the part for Sandler, who ultimately had a commitment to Apatow. Tarantino and Apatow met through Sandler in 2000, when the former director had a cameo in Sandler’s film Little Nicky. Tarantino was already working on the Inglorious Basterds script at the time and had Sandler in mind for Donowitz, but the film didn’t premiere until 2009 — the same year Sandler starred in Apatow’s film Funny People. “I feel bad because when I did Funny People with Sandler, I wasn’t aware that that was the exact ...

Bradley Cooper to Star in New Bullitt Movie From Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg has tapped Bradley Cooper to star in a new film based on the 1968 action classic Bullitt.  According to Variety, the new Bullitt film will follow San Francisco cop Frank Bullitt in an all new adventure, meaning it’s less of a remake and more of a continuation. Beyond Spielberg’s direction, Josh Singer (The Post, Spotlight) is writing the movie’s screenplay, while Spielberg and Cooper are producing alongside Kristie Macosko Krieger. The original Bullitt was directed by Peter Yates and based on Robert L. Fish’s 1963 novel Mute Witness. Steve McQueen originally played the officer, who investigates the death of a mob informant he was supposed to protect. McQueen did his own stunts in the film’s iconic green Mustang, gifting us all with one of...

Clint Worthington’s Favorite Films of the Last 15 Years

It’s Consequence’s 15th anniversary, and all September long we’ll be publishing a series of retrospective pieces encompassing our publication’s own history — and the entertainment landscape in general. Today, Senior Writer Clint Worthington runs down his favorite movies of the last 15 years. As I write this, it’s the day after my seven-year anniversary of writing for Consequence. That’s nearly half of its 15-year existence, spanning hundreds of reviews, interviews, features, news items, listicles, rankings, and scores of other pieces. Film critics age in dog years; every year feels like seven. There’s always more to watch — something new to evaluate, something old to celebrate. I have a great deal of affection for this place, even as editors, managers, and fellow writers come and go w...

Directed by sci-fi filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, best known for projects like District 9 and Elysium, the movie also pulls from a true story about a skilled teenage Gran Turismo player who would go on to become an actual professional race car driver. “As one of PlayStation’s longest standing and most beloved franchises, it’s great to be partnering with Columbia Pictures again to bring Gran Turismo to life in an exci...

Jeffrey Dean Morgan to Fuck Shit Up in Season 4 of The Boys

TV shows respond to Jeffrey Dean Morgan the way a mountaintop responds to dynamite. Playing wildly different characters on Grey’s Anatomy, Supernatural, The Walking Dead, and more, his presence has warped storylines and devastated main characters on the way to some of recent television’s most memorable moments. And so it is with great excitement that we learn Morgan will be fucking shit up in Season 4 of The Boys. Morgan’s role is a mystery, Variety reports, though also a long time coming. He has an excellent relationship with The Boys creator Eric Kripke from their time working on Kripke’s other massive hit, Supernatural. In January of 2020, Morgan tweeted that he was in “LOVE” with The Boys Season 1. Kripke responded, “I’ll make you ...

Directed by Anna Foerster from a screenplay by Maggie Cohn and Jack Stanley, Lou follows Janney and Smollett through the rainy wilderness as they hunt for Smollett’s child. As the trailer progresses, Janney’s Lou reveals that “this isn’t just a kidnapping,” but she stays mum on everything else, like how she learned how to incapacitate a grown man (Her answer? “Girl Scouts”). Logan Marshall-Green, Ridley As...
