Phoebe Bridgers Shares Personal Story and Says “Everyone Deserves” Access to Safe Abortions

After a leaked draft opinion revealed that the conservative majority of the Supreme Court is set to overturn Roe v. Wade, Phoebe Bridgers has shared her own experience while advocating for abortion rights. “I had an abortion in October of last year while I was on tour,” the singer-songwriter wrote on social media. “I went to Planned Parenthood where they gave me the abortion pill. It was easy. Everyone deserves that kind of access. Here’s a big list of places you can donate to right now.” She then directed fans to an article published by The Cut which includes a state-by-state breakdown of abortion rights organizations in states which would be most directly affected by the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Advertisement Related Video On Monday night, Politico published the first draf...

Leaked SCOTUS Opinion Draft Shows Roe V. Wade To Be Overturned

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Alex Wong / Getty A leaked opinion draft by the Supreme Court has apparently shown that they have made the decision to officially overturn Roe V. Wade, effectively leading to the severe restriction and banning of abortion in the United States. In a stunning development, a leaked draft majority opinion written by conservative Justice Samuel Alito published on Monday night (May 2nd) shows that the conservative-dominated Supreme Court will overturn the decision in the historic 49-year-old Roe V. Wade case, upending years of federal protection for women’s reproductive rights in the nation. The opinion, if it stands by the end of the SCOTUS term in June would also overturn the decision in Planned Parenthood V. Casey. In the draft which was apparently published...

Bette Midler Calls for Sex Strike in Protest of Texas Abortion Ban

That’s certainly one way of sticking it to the man. Bette Midler took to social media this week to suggest women go on a sexual strike to fight back against their reproductive rights being taken away in Texas’ new anti-abortion bill. “I suggest that all women refuse to have sex with men until they are guaranteed the right to choose by Congress,” the icon tweeted on Thursday, just on day after Texas’ restrictive anti-abortion law — which prohibits women from obtaining an abortion for almost any reason after six weeks of pregnancy — went into effect. Naturally, Midler’s stance set off a firestorm of debate and conversation in the replies, with a number of famous faces also chiming in. “My dad actually suggested that decades ago,” wrote Nancy Sinatra of her father Frank Sinatra, while Rosanna...

Poland puts into effect new restrictions on abortion

Poland’s government put into effect on Wednesday a constitutional court decision banning terminations of pregnancies with foetal defects, as conservative policies increasingly take root in one of Europe’s most devout Catholic countries. The Oct. 22 ruling had led to weeks of massive protests, forcing the nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) government to delay its implementation. Small protests gathered late on Wednesday following an announcement PiS would take the official step to enforce the decision imminently, and abortion rights activists announced more would take place on Thursday. Abortion has emerged as one of the most divisive issues since PiS took power in 2015, promising poorer, older and less educated Poles a return to a traditional society mixed with generous welfare policies. China possibly committed ‘genocide’ against Xinjiang Muslims

The Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC) said on Thursday that new evidence had emerged in the past year that “crimes against humanity – and possibly genocide – are occurring”. The CECC also accused China of harassing Uighurs in the US. China has been widely condemned for setting up complexes in Xinjiang that it describes as “vocational training centres” to stamp out “extremism” and give people new skills, but others have called them concentration camps. The United Nations says at least one million Uighurs and other Muslims have been detained in Xinjiang. Faith leaders, activist groups and others have said crimes against humanity, including genocide, are taking place there. Beijing denies abuse accusations. The CECC report called for a formal US “determination on whether atro...

Stevie Nicks: There Would Have Been No Fleetwood Mac “If I Had Not Had That Abortion”

The death of Stevie Nicks’ “hero” Ruth Bader Ginsburg has the songwriter worried about the future of women’s rights. In a new interview with The Guardian, she put the issue of abortion in personal terms, saying, “If I had not had that abortion, I’m pretty sure there would have been no Fleetwood Mac.” Nicks terminated a pregnancy in 1979, while dating Don Henley of The Eagles. By bringing it up now, she wasn’t trying to claim that Fleetwood Mac would never have existed otherwise — after all, her procedure happened at the apex of the band’s post-Rumors fame. Instead, she seems to have been suggesting that Fleetwood Mac wouldn’t have turned into the cultural heavyweight it became, and Nicks wouldn’t have realized her potential. Now, she’s concerned that Trump’s nominee to replace Gi...
