“Poop is an important tenet of one's comedic voice,” Glazer said. “When MiraLAX approached us… we knew we could get the job done.” Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer Reunite for Laxative Ad: Watch Jo Vito
[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for A League of Their Own, Season 1 Episode 6, “Stealing Home.”] As A League of Their Own co-creator/star Abbi Jacobson tells Consequence, the original film which inspired her new Amazon Prime Video series “is iconic and important to all of us. It’s just people’s favorite movie. So the film doesn’t need to be remade — and we were really focused on telling the stories that were not told in the film for whatever reason.” Those reasons might include, in Jacobson’s words, “the limitations of what stories people were telling in 1992.” For a lot of things have changed between 1992 and 2022, but here’s a big one: Jacobson feels pretty sure that the adaptation’s groundbreaking approach to LGBTQ+ representation could only happen today: “I think a lot ...
The Pitch: You might think you know this story… but you don’t. The Penny Marshall film A League of Their Own, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, was a landmark production as well as a damn great sports movie, chronicling the inaugural season of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, despite the 1943-era sexism that had men chanting from the stands, “Girls can’t play ball!” As groundbreaking as the original film was, 1992 was a long time ago. So in creating a new take on A League of Their Own as a TV show, co-creators Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) and Will Graham (Mozart In the Jungle) have effectively made a remix of the original film, fully centered in the underrepresented voices that, in the movie, only lurked at the edges of the frame. The story is still focused on h...
UPDATED: This is the story of a mystery. Unlike a good Agatha Christie page-turner, it’s not that dramatic. But it is a sad one — though maybe, just maybe, the ending hasn’t been written yet. Thirty years ago, one of the greatest sports movies ever made was released in theaters. Based on the true story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, founded during World War II when most able-bodied men (including ball players) were fighting overseas, A League of Their Own featured two fictional sisters (Geena Davis and Lori Petty) battling over their own issues during the inaugural season of women’s professional baseball. The film became a modern classic for so many reasons: the powerful direction by Penny Marshall, an all-star cast that also includes Tom Hanks, Rosie O’Donnell, Ma...
It feels like every TV show of the past these days is just one press release away from a revival or reunion; after all, just a few hours before the writing of this post, FX announced that Justified would be returning for a new limited series. So, what about reviving another beloved 2010s cable favorite for a reunion — one lacking Timothy Olyphant in a cowboy hat, but featuring Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, two of the funniest women to ever grace our television screens? It sounds like Broad City fans may have a while longer to wait for a reunion, unfortunately. The literal issue being “time.” During a press day for the upcoming Apple TV+ series The Afterparty, Consequence asked Glazer about the potential for a Broad City reunion — specifically, what would it take? “Just tons and tons of m...
Nick Offerman has joined the cast of Amazon’s A League of Their Own reboot series. The Parks and Recreation alumnus will play Casey “Dove” Porter, a washed-up MLB pitcher brought in to coach the Rockford Peaches of the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. According to the streamer, the hour-long series will evoke “the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball.” It is co-created by Will Graham (Mozart in the Jungle) and Abbi Jacobson (Broad City). Jacobson will also star in A League of Their Own alongside Chanté Adams, D’Arcy Carden, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Kelly McCormack, Roberta Colindrez, and Priscilla Delgado. Recurring guest actors incl...
