Ex-APC chairman speaks on ‘crisis’ in Ebonyi chapter

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Eze Nwachukwu, has refuted media report about leadership crisis in the state chapter of the party. Southeast governors insist on ban of open grazing

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, Chairman Southe East Governors Forum says the zone insists on the ban of open grazing of cattle in the zone. Umahi announced this during an APC stakeholder meeting at the Christian Ecumenical Centre Abakaliki. Lecturer found dead with bullet wounds in Ebonyi

A lecturer with the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State, Mr Kyrian Nwoke, has been murdered by unknown assailants. Until his death, he taught in the Department of Physiology in AE-FUNAI. His lifeless body was found along Abakaliki rice mill axis of Ogoja Road, on Monday, with bullet wounds. Newsmen gathered that the deceased was using his car for a taxi in order to fend for himself and his family following the hardship occasioned by the lingering dispute between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities which has led to the withholding of salaries of lecturers for months. Ebonyi governor pledges to abide by peace pact with political opponents

Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi has pledged to abide by the peace pact he made with political opponents in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Umahi made the pledge on Tuesday at his hometown Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state while briefing newsmen after a state Security Council meeting. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state founding fathers forum in conjunction with the Catholic Church in Ebonyi, recently organised a peace meeting between Umahi and stakeholders of the PDP in the state. Hoodlums attack police station in Ebonyi, kill three police officers

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the attack on Onueke police station in Ezza South Local Government area of the state by hoodlums. The Command disclosed that three police officers on duty were gunned down by the hoodlums during the attack. Police spokeswoman DSP Loveth Odah, who confirmed the incident to reporters in Abakaliki on Sunday, said the hoodlums attacked the station on Friday night. Odah disclosed that the Command had launched a manhunt for the hoodlums and urged anyone with useful information that will lead to the arrest of the hoodlums to reach out to the command, stressing that the perpetrators of the dastardly act must be brought to book. NYSC offers free virus tests for corps members, officials

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ebonyi State has opened its orientation camps for the Batch B Stream 1A with strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols. The Public Relations officer of the Corps in Ebonyi state, Ngọzi Ukwuoma confirmed this to newsmen in Abakaliki. She said the Old MacGregor College Permanent Orientation camp in the State opened on Monday with free Covid-19 test for all staff and prospective corps members. Traders burn 10-year-old boy for ‘stealing’ food

A 10-year-old boy, Ifeanyi, was on Saturday thrown into a fire for allegedly stealing a small measure of uncooked rice in a market at Inikiri Benard village, Effium community, in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Newsmen gathered that the lad’s mother was late, while his father was mentally-challenged. Ebonyi governor reduces university tuition fees

Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi has directed the reduction of the tuition fees being paid by students of Ebonyi State University Abakaliki (EBSU). In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SGG), Dr Kenneth Ugbala, Umahi directed the reduction of N10,000 from the fees being paid by every non-indigene student of the school while N20,000 was reduced from the fees of the students who are indigenes of the state. The statement said the Governor took the decision because of effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economies of every family. The Police Command in Ebonyi has confirmed Thursday’s attack on Uburu Police Station in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state by suspected hoodlums. The Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi, Mr Philip Maku, said suspected hoodlums attacked some police officers on duty, after which they razed the station down. According to him, some of the police officers sustained several degrees of injuries while trying to manage the situation.
