How Weird: The Al Yankovic Story Landed Those Incredible Cameos

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is packed with more cameos than you can count on first viewing, as the “Weird” Al Yankovic-style approach to creating a musical biopic (i.e. — a parody of biopics) was able to lean heavily on the iconic musician’s address book to bring in big names. “All of the ridiculously famous legends came from Weird Al, but it was really fun, going out to all those people,” director Eric Appel tells Consequence. “It was Al personally reaching out to all of them, just showing me this list and saying ‘Hey, here’s all these people that are on my holiday card list — pick from them, I can call them personally.” Appel’s initial engagement with Yankovic began in 2013, when he made a trailer version of Weird as a Funny or Die exclusive — leaning hard into the tropes of dark and gr...

Statues of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman Unveiled in Albuquerque

Next time you’re in Albuquerque, be on the lookout for statues honoring two of the city’s most notorious drug dealers. On Friday, statues of Breaking Bad characters Walter White and Jesse Pinkman were unveiled at the Albuquerque Convention Center. The bronze sculptures, created by Trevor Grove, were commissioned by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan as a gift to the Albuquerque for serving as the home of Breaking Bad and its prequel series Better Call Saul over the last 15 years. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, who portrayed Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, respectively, were both in attendance for Friday’s unveiling. Westworld Season 4 Review: A Welcome Fresh Start With Some Big Ideas to Explore

The Pitch: The third season of Westworld did not have a lot of luck on its side — specifically, the timing of its premiere could have been better, as March 15th, 2020 was not an ideal day to launch a new season of a TV show which, over the course of eight episodes, became a tale of society nearly descending entirely into apocalypse. But even since the first season, Westworld has experienced a lot of critical scrutiny, especially as the narrative has drifted further and further away from its original Michael Crichton inspiration of disaster at a high-tech amusement park for the ultra-rich. (Funny how Westworld literally is a response to one of Jeff Goldblum’s iconic quotes from another Crichton adaptation: “If Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don’t eat the tourists.”) So wh...

The Leaders of Westworld Reap What They Sow in Season 4 Trailer: Watch

HBO is about to welcome us back to Westworld, and the theme park is not looking good. In the newly released trailer for Season 4 of the sci-fi drama, officially premiering on June 26th, Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and her fellow Hosts continue to deal with their Human feelings — and as all humans know, it’s a pretty rocky ride. Perfectly set to Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day,” the cinematic Season 4 trailer begins calm enough — Maeve (Thandiwe Newton) takes a casual stroll, Caleb (Aaron Paul) drinks Sangria in the park (so to speak) — but chaos quickly ensues as the song swells. The Man in Black (Ed Harris) and Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright) come closer to death, and as allegiances blur, Reed’s hex seems inevitable: the characters are all going to reap just what they sow. Watch the trailer for...

Aaron Paul Reveals Bryan Cranston Is the Godfather of His Baby Boy

Bryan Cranston’s Breaking Bad protagonist Walter White likely fancied himself as surpassing The Godfather once he became Heisenberg, but co-star Aaron Paul has made him a different kind of godfather in real life. While appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night, Paul revealed that he recently had a second baby with his wife Lauren. When it came time to choose a godparent, his close friend was a natural fit. “His name is Rydin and I love him,” Paul told Fallon, adding that he’s understandably exhausted by the arrival of his infant. The Tonight Show host proceeded to show off photos of Paul’s adorable baby boy, with whom the actor’s 4-year-old daughter Story is already “madly in love.” Cute stuff. Naturally, Fallon asked if Cranston had met the newborn yet, and...

Better Call Saul: Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul to Return For Final Season

Better Call Saul will end with the beginning in more ways than one, as series co-creator Peter Gould has confirmed that Breaking Bad stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul would be returning for the final season of the AMC prequel as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. Exact details as to how their return may happen were left unclear by Gould during a Paleyfest panel on Saturday evening. “I don’t want to spoil things for the audience, but I will say the first question we had when we started the show was, ‘Are we gonna see Walt and Jesse on the show?’ Instead of evading, I’ll just say yeah. How or the circumstances or anything, you’ll just have to discover that for yourself, but I have to say that’s one of many things that I think you’ll discover this season,” Gould said. The Better Call Saul cast...

Sundance Review: Karen Gillan Faces Herself in Riley Stearns’ Deadpan Dual

This review is part of our coverage of the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. The Pitch: Sarah (Karen Gillan) is dying of a rare, incurable disease. It’s no big shakes, though, because up to now she hasn’t really lived: she has a strained, distant relationship with her boyfriend (Beulah Koale), her mother is disapproving, and she can’t even be bothered to cry when she receives her prognosis. Still, she unthinkingly accepts an offer to go through the process of “replacement”: growing a clone of her that will learn the ins and outs of her life, then take over when she dies. But ten months of watching her double (also Gillan, obviously) insinuate herself into her life, Sarah learns that she’s making a full recovery. But she’s got two problems: a) her boyfriend and family like the double more t...
