One of 3LAU‘s collaborators has served the artist a lawsuit, claiming she has been under-compensated based on the terms of their agreement. 3LAU has been one of the music industry’s most steadfast purveyors of NFT technologies. As a result of his efforts, his own Ultraviolet NFT offering was met with much excitement, fetching over $11 million at auction and serving as a watershed moment. Now, Luna Aura, his collaborator on “Walk Away,” says she is owed a 50% royalty share of the NFT proceeds pertaining to that track, but instead was met with a $25,000 lump sum offer from 3LAU’s team. Aura’s camp also maintains they were not provided notice of the NFT sale itself and she has not received any revenue thus far, Billboard reports. Scroll to Continue Recommended Articles...

The future of music production could very well live on the blockchain. One Web3 startup with promising potential has developed the first on-chain digital audio workstation (DAW), and in doing so, has attracted the attention of a number of major electronic dance music artists. Arpeggi Labs’ use case differs fundamentally from the vast majority of successful developments at the intersection of music tech and blockchain technologies, which may prove to be a key competitive edge. While many new platforms in the space are leading with a focus on facilitating the tokenized ownership of music, Arpeggi is focusing on revolutionizing the way the music itself is made and published. The platform accomplishes this while maintaining a proprietary crediting system that ensures samples ...
3LAU‘s NFT marketplace Royal is on a mission to revolutionize the nostalgic pastime of collecting music. After launching in the second half of 2021, the platform quickly amassed a $55 million war chest in a funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz. Since then, Royal has facilitated attention-grabbing NFT collections, including offerings from Diplo and Nas. Last month, Darya Pourshasb, former Director of Premium Content Strategy at Spotify, made the leap to join Royal’s leadership team with an eagerness to continue growing the brand’s partnerships within the artist community. While the industry at-large appears to be lining up behind Royal, 3LAU remains laser-focused on illuminating the emotional and intrinsic value of music NFTs for consumers. Speaking on T...
Distressed by accumulating student loan debt, music producer and visual creative director Bdice reached out to 3LAU for feedback on an idea. What happened next changed the trajectory of his life forever. A multi-faceted creative, Bdice understood well the need to retain ownership of his work. He had been well versed in the possibilities of Web3 and was actively exploring opportunities to monetize his work. Unfortunately, Bdice tells EDM.com, he had found himself in dire straits from a financial standpoint. He’d gone through Audio Engineering & Music Production school, but the aftermath left him six figures in debt. Despite monthly payments, the interest continued to eat away his progress. He had spent $100,000 over 10 years in interest payments alone. Nonetheless, Bdice was...
The music industry’s A-listers and executive class are betting on HIFI as the future of financial transparency and empowerment in the creator economy. HIFI, a platform branded as a “financial rights organization,” is committed to delivering a suite of data-driven financial products to creators on a membership basis. Thus far, the company has delivered on the development of a Royalty Dashboard solution that uniquely aggregates royalty earnings data from across platforms and accounts all in one location. Financial empowerment and transparency are two core principles for HIFI as it aims to shed light on an element of the industry that—in some ways—has remained opaque by design. Now, the company, which launched in 2020, has closed an eight-figure funding round to contin...
If music were water, Colorado would never run dry. It’s no secret that Colorado is a hub for electronic music. And its most iconic venue, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, is its biggest purveyor. Celebrated for its natural acoustics, which are made possible by two giant monoliths flanking the amphitheater, the open air venue is one of those ineffable places that consistently manufactures “you had to be there” moments. Ergo, only those who have attended an electronic dance music show at Red Rocks can attest how special it is. Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. Ryan Loughlin Recommended Articles And the EDM community has a lot to look forward to in 2022. Red Rocks is set host a litany of remarkable concerts, which will feature Porter Robinson, Kraftwerk, Zeds Dead and man...
3LAU is continuing to define the future of NFT technology with an innovative project that will reward one investor with an exclusive song they can personally call their own. The project, titled “WAVEFORM,” is the marquee offering in a collaboration between the Christie’s auction house, NFT platform OpenSea, and 3LAU’s own Royal business venture, which is dedicated to facilitating the tokenization of music on the blockchain. “WAVEFORM” is the title of an original 3LAU track with only one copy in existence. Whomever takes it home at auction will enjoy full mastering and publishing rights to the intellectual property, meaning the owner can choose to distribute, monetize, remix, and even rename the track as they see fit. The NFT also includes a physical...
