Foo Fighters Sweep Grammy Rock Categories

Foo Fighters swept the Grammy rock categories tonight (April 3) during the pre-show Premiere Ceremony at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Conference Marquee Ballroom. The group, whose drummer Taylor Hawkins died suddenly last week in Colombia, won best rock album for Medicine at Midnight, best rock song for “Waiting on a War” and best rock performance for “Making a Fire.” As expected, no band members were on hand to accept their trophies, having announced last week that they were canceling all future performances in the wake of Hawkins’ death. A tribute to the late drummer will be held tonight during the Grammys telecast, which airs live on CBS beginning at 8 pm ET. Medicine at Midnight will seemingly include some of Hawkins’ final recordings with the Foos. It debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock ...

2022 Grammy Awards Winners List: Who Won Big This Year? (Updating Live)

The 2022 Grammys were weird before a single winner was announced. Following an admittedly pretty fun but down year during prime pandemic, the 64th annual awards ceremony was delayed due to the Omicron surge, rescheduled from January to April. And that was even after — as is pathetically typical for the Recording Academy — scandal after scandal piled on, from controversial figures receiving nominations, to clear frontrunners being barred from certain categories, to last minute rule changes, to megastars withdrawing their names from the competition. Oh, and then there was five-time nominee Kanye West’s performance being canceled because of his beef with host Trevor Noah. So yeah, the 2022 Grammys were kind of a mess for months before anyone even arrived at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las V...

2022 Dance/Electronic Grammy Preview: Afrojack on His David Guetta Collab & Why a Nomination Is ‘The Best Firepower You Can Have in This Industry’

Editors note: In this series, Billboard Dance is speaking with each 2022 Grammy nominee from the dance/electronic categories ahead of the 64th Annual Grammy Awards on April 3 in Las Vegas. In more ways than one, it’s kind of a fluke that Afrojack and David Guetta are up for a Grammy this year. Their nominated single “Hero” is classic main stage EDM, a sound Guetta and Afrojack pioneered and popularized worldwide in the early 2010s — and a sound the best dance/electronic recording category has largely turned away from in the last few years as its embraced more IDM and experimental sounds. Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news With “Hero” released independently by Afrojack’s Wall Recordings last May, the duo also just kind of… forgo...

Joni Mitchell to Make Rare Public Appearance at the Grammys

Joni Mitchell will make a rare public appearance at Sunday’s Grammy Awards. The legendary songwriter will be on hand to present an award during Sunday’s ceremony in Las Vegas, the Record Academy announced on Friday. Mitchell, 78, has mostly remained out of the public spotlight since suffering a brain aneurysm in 2015. Her most recent public appearance came last December, when she attended the 2021 Kennedy Center Honors. In a brief speech following the ceremony, Mitchell briefly addressed her health, saying: “I always think that polio was a rehearsal for the rest of my life… I’ve had to come back several times from things. And this last one was a real whopper. But, you know, I’m hobbling along but I’m doing all right!” Ahead of Sunday’s Grammys, Mitchell will be honored at a separate ceremo...

5 Things to Know About Brothers Osborne, 2022 Grammy Nominees and Performers

“I’m not for everyone.” This mantra, a lyric stripped from their latest release Skeletons, has become a rallying cry for Brothers Osborne’s most recent album cycle. The simple, defiant phrase leads press releases, dons their merch, and titles their current expansive tour. But as their profile continues to grow and they rack up additional award nominations, it’s starting to feel more and more like everyone loves those “not for everyone” brothers. Made up of T.J. Osborne, who takes lead vocal responsibilities, and John Osborne, the group’s lead guitarist, Brothers Osborne’s unflinching attitude has been garnering them unlikely success in the famously rigid Nashville country scene. While they break the country music mold in numerous ways, from their mix of genres to their politics, the band b...

5 Things to Know About Jon Batiste, The Most Nominated Musician of the 2022 Grammy Awards

The moment is not lost on Batiste, who tearfully reflected on The Late Show after the nominations were announced that “there’s something in this that’s bigger than me and just adulation for me that I have to learn in this.” Ahead of Music’s Biggest Night on Sunday (April 3rd), here are five things to know about the artist. Kanye West Barred From Performing at the Grammys

Kanye West will not be performing at the upcoming 2022 Grammy Awards. The development was shared by the rapper’s “Eazy” collaborator The Game in a lengthy Instagram post on Saturday. “The Grammys have at the last minute decided to pull [Kanye West] from performing on the show as if we didn’t know it was coming.” The Game attributed the Grammys’ decision to a myriad of factors, including West’s recent beef with the ceremony’s host, Trevor Noah, which led to his temporary suspension from Instagram. Related Video A representative for West confirmed as much in an email to Rolling Stone, as they linked back to article by The Blast which cited the Donda rapper’s “concerning online behavior” as the primary factor for the Grammys’ decision.
