2021 Grammy Nominations

3 Grammy Nominees for Best Children’s Music Album Ask to Withdraw Nods Due to Lack of Diversity

This year’s two other nominees in that category, Justin Roberts and Joanie Leeds, didn’t sign the letter asking to be removed as nominees, but made it clear that they support the other nominees’ aims. It’s unclear, though, if the Academy will honor the artists’ request to not to be nominated. As of Monday (Jan. 4), the last day of voting for the 63rd annual Grammy Awards, the Academy had not removed the three artists’ names from their online list of nominees. Billboard reached out to the Academy to find out why the artists’ names still appear, and whether the Academy allows artists to decline nominations, but hadn’t heard back by the time of publication. Moock, the Okee Dokee Brothers and Dog on Fleas say that it is “not an aberration” that there is so little diversity in the category this...

Blue Ivy Becomes One of the Youngest Grammy Nominees in History

Leah Peasall of The Peasall Sisters is the youngest-ever Grammy nominee (and winner) as one of the credited artists on the O Brother, Where Art Thou?  soundtrack, which was the 2001 winner for album of the year. Jay-Z and Beyoncé, of course, are Grammy royalty. Jay-Z this year tied Quincy Jones as the most-nominated pers...

Billie Eilish is just 18 and has received two nods for both record and song of the year. That’s got to be a first, right? It is. Phoebe Bridgers Reacts to 4 Grammy Nominations, Reveals Plans to ‘Level Up’ Her Skeleton Outfit

Bridgers, who released her acclaimed second album, Punisher, on Dead Oceans in June, earned four nominations: best new artist, best alternative album, and best rock song and best rock performance for the melodic and impassioned single “Kyoto.” While she asserts “there’s not enough nominations for the amount of very incredible music in the world,” she’s excited to see artists she loves, like Chika and Megan Thee Stallion, also in this year’s best new artist class. “I feel like [Megan] turned positivity into being punk rock, you know?” she says of the latter. “If the intersection of nihilism and optimism is ‘f— everything,’ she’s the optimism side.” Bridgers also recalls how Conor Oberst’s former tour manager used to say: “Bright Eyes, best new artist 15 years running” (the band was, i...

Noah Cyrus on Scoring Best New Artist Grammy Nomination: ‘I’ve Idolized the Show Since I Was Little’

Cyrus immediately after called her dad and the rest of the family, wiping away tears each time she relived the news. “I’ve watched the show since I was a little girl and I’ve idolized the show since I was a little girl,” she says. “I’ve always known the importance, the weight and the honor that it holds to be nominated for or to receive a Grammy. This is something I’ve talked about since the day that I started as an artist. I remember being 15 in my manager’s office talking about the Grammys and everybody being like, ‘That’s so far away.’” Cyrus, now 20 and with over 940 million on-demand care...
