Nigerian music icon Wizkid has taken delivery of his Grammy Award plaque from the Recording Academy. Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun better known as Wizkid has received his Grammy award plaque for his contribution to Beyonce’s hit single “Brown Skin Girl“. Wizkid’s win at the Grammy was announced in March after “Brown Skin Girl” won the Best Music Video category at the 63rd Grammys. The Starboy became the only contemporary Nigerian musician besides Burna Boy to have bagged a Grammy award. The folks at the Recording Academy finally sent in the plaque to Wizkid who only got to receive it recently. One of his associates shared a picture of the award via Instagram. Veteran music sensation and rapper, Kanye West bagged a Grammys for his first gospel album “Jesus is King”. This comes as a mega feat for Kanye considering the backdrop of the album. He once rolled as an international secular super star, won tons of awards, and made massive fortune before delving into a category no one saw coming. It’s his 8th Grammy Award and the very first in the Gospel Category. Kanye coasted home to victory with “Best Contemporary Christian Music Album” at the just concluded 63rd Grammy Awards held on March 14, 2021, for his gospel album which was released in October 2019. The album was pretty much teased prior to it’s release but surmounted the hurdles with a Grammy. Although, this is a difficult point in Kanye’s life as a divorce with his wife Kim Kardashian is under...
“We announced the same date for the SAG Awards last July with the intent to give the greatest possible scheduling consideration for other awards shows. We expect the same consideration from sister organizations throughout the industry.” This is the second year in a row that there was a scheduling conflict involving these two shows. Last year, the 26th Annual SAG Awards were originally scheduled for Jan. 26, 2020. But when the Grammy Awards were announced for the same date, SAG-AFTRA moved the SAG Awards a week up, to Jan. 19. Last year’s scheduling conflict was of course pre-COVID-19. This year’s conflict is a direct result of the chaos that the pandemic has caused in every aspect of American life, including a logjam of award shows. Yesterday, the Recording Academy was gearing up to announ...
This year’s two other nominees in that category, Justin Roberts and Joanie Leeds, didn’t sign the letter asking to be removed as nominees, but made it clear that they support the other nominees’ aims. It’s unclear, though, if the Academy will honor the artists’ request to not to be nominated. As of Monday (Jan. 4), the last day of voting for the 63rd annual Grammy Awards, the Academy had not removed the three artists’ names from their online list of nominees. Billboard reached out to the Academy to find out why the artists’ names still appear, and whether the Academy allows artists to decline nominations, but hadn’t heard back by the time of publication. Moock, the Okee Dokee Brothers and Dog on Fleas say that it is “not an aberration” that there is so little diversity in the category this...
The 26-year-old pop star’s exclusion from the 2021 Grammy nominations came as a surprise to many, given that her recent album, Manic, featured the hit song “Without Me,” which reached No. 1 on the Hot 100. To date, the singer has not been nominated in a Big Four (album of the year, record of the year, song of the year and best new artist) category at the Grammys. “The Grammys are an elusive process,” Halsey continued in her post. “It can often be about behind the scenes private performances, knowing the right people, campaigning through the grapevine, with the right handshake and ‘bribes’ that can be just ambiguous enough to pass as ‘not bribes.'” She added that many politics go into receiving a Grammy nomination, including “...
Roddy Ricch has a good chance of landing Grammy nominations for both record and album of the year. His smash “The Box” headed the Billboard Hot 100 for 11 weeks, longer than any other single this year. His album Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial led the Billboard 200 for four weeks. But you can scratch Ricch off your list of likely Grammy candidates for best new artist. He won a Grammy last year (best rap performance for his featured role on Nipsey Hussle‘s “Racks in the Middle”), which makes him ineligible. Several other artists who might have had a good shot at best new artist nods are also probably going to be ruled ineligible when the Grammy Screening Committee meets (either in-person or by Zoom) this fall. Megan Thee Stallion had released ...
