Sunrise has updated fans on the progress of the revamped version of the infamous Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island episode.
Originally debuted as episode 15 from Mobile Suit Gundam 0079, the episode involved a group of Zeon deserters who wished to start a new life far away from war. Sunrise eventually decided to only air the episode in Japan, skipping the international market. Fans speculate that it was not actually the story that kept this episode from a global audience but rather that the outsourcing of this episode to Anime Friend led to huge discrepancies in animation quality — some proportions of the characters still give viewers a good chuckle.
This, however, is not the case with this new Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island film spinoff. Episode 15 is finally getting the attention it deserves, and with the studio’s newest 3D animation style. In a recent announcement trailer, Sunrise teased the new animation style, showing just how far they’ve come in 43 years. Look for the film to release in the summer of 2022.
