Last year, Summer Walker won R&B fans over with her debut album Over It. Headlined by silky singles such as “Playing Games,” “Come Thru” and her Hot 100 top 40 single “Girls Need Love (Remix)” featuring Drake, Walker’s rookie performance went platinum and was lauded by listeners and media. One year later, Walker surprises fans with never-before-seen studio footage of her creating her 2019 heater to commemorate the project’s first anniversary (Oct. 5).
The two-minute-long video finds Walker busy in the studio crafting her album alongside her go-to producer/beau London on Da Track and LVRN co-founder Justice Baiden. One highlight includes Walker deftly whipping up her sticky earworm “Body,” which samples 702’s ’90s gem “Get It Together.” “I enjoyed writing and recording this album. It was a great experience to work with London, who is a super talented producer! I also enjoyed working in Las Vegas, close to home,” Walker tells Billboard.
The tandem of Walker and London on Da Track proved to be a formidable one, as they netted 13 out of the 16 tracks together. The producer — who previously etched a lane in the hip-hop space with his earsplitting beats, including Rich Gang’s “Lifestyle,” Kodak Black’s “Roll in Peace” and French Montana’s “No Stylist” — relished his evolution by collaborating with Walker.
