Subaru revealed an all-electric race car at the Tokyo Auto Salon over the weekend. The STI E-RA concept car produces 1,073 horsepower through its Yamaha electric motors and includes torque-vectoring all-wheel drive.
The all-wheel-drive setup was built per FIA’s E-GT motorsport regulations, which will set the grounds for an electric sports car racing championship kicking off in 2023.
The model of the car features cutouts that will aid in pulling air out from under the wheel wells, as well as a front splitter and high-rise rear wing.
Subaru said in a press release that it built the race car to gain “experience and training of new technologies in the world of motorsports in this carbon-neutral era.” It also wants the STI E-RA to break records in 2023 with a six-minute and 40-second lap around the Nürburgring track in Germany.
Alongside the electric race car, Subaru showed off a concept for the Solterra STI based on the Solterra all-electric SUV, which debuted in November.
