941 days after sustaining an ACL injury, Klay Thompson officially made his return to the Golden State Warriors yesterday in a win against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Thompson put on a show scoring 17 points in his first game back since 2019.
While fans were thrilled to see the Thompson return to the Bay Area, his long-time friend and teammate Steph Curry was especially happy to see him back on the court. Post-game, Curry spoke about how important Thompson is to the team and himself. He alluded that Thompson has been a great supporter and motivator to him throughout the years, even noting that his success would be due in part to Thompson being around to push him to work harder. Curry said,
“I’m not the shooter I am if I don’t get to see Klay every single day, do what he does.”
Other players in the NBA also expressed their excitement to see Thompson make his comeback. Former teammate Kevin Durant said, “I’m excited for him. I know it’s a huge, huge day out there in the Bay Area. It’s going to be electric in there today.” LeBron James took to Twitter to respond to another fan’s tweet about Thompson’s highly anticipated return with a slew of “fax” and “fire” emojis. Needless to say, fans across the basketball community were excited to see the Splash Brothers get back into action.
