Ahead of Star Trek: Picard‘s season two finale this week, Paramount Plus has announced the cast for the third and final season of the series.
In a teaser led by Patrick Stewart, who reprises his role as Jean-Luc Picard in the series, Paramount Plus revealed that six Star Trek: The Next Generation stars — LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis and Brent Spiner — will join the cast for Picard‘s final chapter. Notably, Frakes, Sirtis and Spiner have previously appeared in episodes of the series over the last two seasons.
The announcement, which was made on April 5, or Star Trek‘s “First Contact Day,” marks the first time that Paramount Plus has confirmed that the series will end with season three, though several actors had previously shared that news in various interviews over the last several months.
“I remember watching the premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation almost 34 years ago with my father like it was yesterday. It was the spark that ignited my love for science fiction,” said Terry Matalas, season three showrunner and executive producer, in a statement.
“So, it’s most fitting that the story of Jean-Luc Picard ends honoring the beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends from the U.S.S. Enterprise,” he added. “It would be an understatement to say that giving these characters a proper send-off is an honor. The entire Star Trek: Picard team and I can’t wait for fans to experience this final, high-stakes, starship-bound adventure in season three!”
