South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have revealed their long-running animated series won’t return until 2025 while they wait for “Paramount to figure all their shit out.” The delay is also partially “on purpose,” as it will allow them to sidestep the presidential election between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the duo said that lampooning elections is creatively draining and explained they’re no longer interested in mocking Trump. “We’ve tried to do South Park through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing to [do],” Stone said. “It’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance.”
“Obviously, it’s fucking important, but it kind of takes over everything and we just have less fun,” he continued. Parker added, “I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump.”

South Park wrapped up its 26th season in March 2023, though there have been three Paramount+ specials since then: South Park: Joining the Panderverse, South Park (Not Suitable for Children), and South Park: The End of Obesity.
Earlier this year, Parker and Stone put out 4K Ultra HD re-releases of South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut (order here) and Team America: World Police (order here). There’s also a documentary about their restoration of Colorado restaurant Casa Bonita coming to select theaters this month, followed by its streaming debut on Paramount+ this fall.
