SoundCloud and Solid Foundation Management form a joint venture that both parties hope, with its combined might, will weaponize more artists and unearth new talent.
Described in a statement as “groundbreaking,” the alliance sees Solid Foundation parent QC Media Holdings’ invest in Soundcloud with an undisclosed sum.
Also, QC Media co-founders Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas and their Solid Foundation artist management team, based in Atlanta, will work collaboratively with the SoundCloud to “identify, invest in, and foster the careers of artists featured.”
“Coach K and P are two of the most influential voices in music, having identified, developed and grown some of the most successful hip-hop acts of our time,” comments Eliah Seton, president of SoundCloud.
With this deal, Seton continues, “we’re bringing together SoundCloud, the largest A&R source on the planet, with the creative genius of Coach and P. We are excited to partner with them in this innovative way as together we amplify the voices of who’s next in music.”
The partnership will combine know-how, proprietary data, insights and resources to “create custom A&R programs,” for selected artists inclusive of development, distribution and marketing and artist services, a statement explains.
Says Thomas, “I can’t think of a better merging of passion, intel and skill sets to create countless new paths for emerging artists. We are beyond excited for this partnership,” while Lee adds, (SoundCloud’s) data merging with our time-tested way of cultivating and building artists will be a blend to be reckoned with.”
Established in 2013 by Thomas (CEO) and Lee (COO), Solid Foundation Management’s suite of services include contract negotiation, strategy, branding and marketing solutions, and the business has, to date, worked with the likes of Migos, Lil’ Yachty, Lil Baby and City Girls.
SoundCloud, founded in 2007, has found its niche in the artist community, with superstars including Chance the Rapper to Billie Eilish using the platform to build their earlier followings. Today, the company boasts over 275 million tracks from 30 million creators.
Now headed up by CEO Michael Weissman following Kerry Trainor’s departure in January 2021, SoundCloud has made a string of announcements to further its mission of empowering artists to remain independent. That includes its user-centric payment system; an enhanced iteration of its First on SoundCloud artist accelerator program; an integration with Triller to showcase SoundCloud artists on the short-form video platform; and, via SoundCloud’s Repost artist services division, a string of A&R partnerships to provide customized support to select music companies and their artists.
