Sony has just added a new camera to its FX series of cinema cameras. Acting as the younger sibling to the FX3, the FX30 is aimed at those looking to get into video work and want up-to-date specs at a relatively affordable price.
Cosmetically, the FX30 shares a similar magnesium alloy body design as the FX3 but in place of the full-frame sensor is an Exmor™ R APS-C CMOS (Super 35mm format) sensor which offers 4K recording and output. Its wide dynamic range still gives users a cinematic look, and with tools like custom LUTs, Flexible ISO, S-Cinetone, real-time eye AF, and 5-axis image stabilization, the FX30 packs a lot of value — and tech that was seen in much more expensive B-cams just a few years ago.
The FX30 records on CFexpress Type A or SDXC/SDHC cards via two memory slots where it can record up to 4K at 120p. Set for a release in late October, the new Sony FX30 will sell in a body only or XLR handle package priced at $1,799 and $2,199 USD, respectively.
