The deal has officially been done. Sony, and its PlayStation division, have just closed on the Bungie acquisition that was proposed back in January. An SEC filing puts the deal in the $3.7 billion USD range where Bungie will now fall under the Sony Entertainment Network, but will continue to operate independently.
While not as big as Microsoft’s announcement to acquire Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion USD, Sony feels confident in this move and has excitedly released the news over Twitter. Fans are pointing out that, while Bungie’s main IP Destiny is not exclusive, the acquisition brings the expertise of multiplayer games from the video game company to Sony.
