Sony Is Making a Movie With Its PlayStation Game Creator ‘Dreams’

Sony Pictures Classics is now looking to make a movie with a PlayStation game creation tool named Dreams.

Titled A Winter’s Journey, the new film is based on Franz Schubert’s classical song cycle Winterreise and is set in Bavaria in 1812, following the dangerous journey of a heartbroken poet across the snowy, mountainous terrain. Visually, the movie will combine live-action actors with CG, painted animations, and a world built with Media Molecule‘s Dreams engine to create a blended experience unlike any we’ve seen before.

Handling the animation side will be the Oscar-nominated artists behind Loving Vincent, with Alex Helfrecht directing. Production will bring together talent from all across Europe, including England, Poland, Germany, Belgium and France, with shooting beginning this June in Poland. As for its cast, so far John Malkovich and Jason Isaacs have been confirmed alongside Marcin Czarnik, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Martina Gedeck and Gabriella Moran.

There’s currently no release date yet for A Winter’s Journey, so those interested should stay tuned for more updates to come.

Elsewhere in entertainment, Sunrise has teased its 3D remake of the infamous Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan’s Island.
