As we move into a new season, it’s normal for a new It-item to emerge. Rippling off the previous season’s trends and informed by the new season’s energy—the turn of the season is always an exciting time for fashion. Whilst some It-items come to the fore as specific cult buys that thrived on the runways, others are fresh silhouettes or interesting motifs that find their wings once the weather starts to change and we begin to seek fresh inspiration. This winter I’ve noticed a particular pattern permeating style crowds and becoming the season’s favourite skirt trend.
Loved by celebrities, Burberry‘s new check print is the single motif that fashion people are standing behind this winter. With a dark tone, this trend has been taking off in the form of chic skirts with a decidedly wintery energy. Rifting off the classic Burberry check that has been in the brand’s repertoire since the 1920s, this fresh iteration resembles a tartan print, giving it a classic energy that keeps the new skirt from feeling too trendy.
Picking up within fashion circles, I’ve seen celebrities reach for this specific skirt trend time and again this autumn/winter. Wearing them with knee-high boots, leather loafers and heels, the emerging skirt trend has proved a versatile staple this season.
Whilst some celebrities have remained loyal to Burberry’s classic beige print—as spotted on Miquita Oliver in September, the new iteration has asserted itself as a fan favourite this winter. Less saturated than its predecessor, Burberry’s diagonal plaid print feels simultaneously new and classic.
Traditional and timeless, but not over-done, this emerging skirt trend has the potential to become the season’s next It-item. To get ahead of the curve, read on to discover the Burberry check print skirt trend here, and shop our other favourite checked skirts below.
