Snoop Dogg Nominated for Songwriters Hall of Fame

The Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced its roster of 2023 nominees, with artists including Snoop Dogg, Patti Smith, R.E.M., Sade, Gloria Estefan, ELO frontman Jeff Lynne, Bryan Adams, Steve Winwood, the Broadway team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and more up for the honorary title. The slate will be voted on for induction at the 54th Annual Induction & Awards Gala on June 15, 2023, in New York City.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame recognizes the lives and catalogs of notable composers and lyricists across the globe. In order to qualify, a songwriter’s first significant commercial track must have been released 20 years prior to induction. Eligible voters will need to cast their ballots by 12 p.m. ET on December 28, 2022, with three choices in both the songwriter and performing songwriter categories. See the full list of nominations on the Songwriters Hall of Fame website.

If selected, Snoop would join hip-hop legends JAY-Z, Missy Elliot, Pharrell and Jermaine Dupri in the Hall of Fame.

Snoop’s official description reads as follows: “Broadus’s prominent vocals on Dr. Dre’s 1992 solo iconic album, The Chronic, fueled his rapid ascent to stardom resulting in his debut 1993 solo album, Doggystyle, produced by Dr. Dre, being the first album to ever debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, as well as #1 on the Popular Albums chart and Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums charts. Featuring the singles ‘What’s My Name’ and ‘Gin & Juice,’ it was certified quadruple certification.”

The news comes shortly after it was announced that the first definitive biopic of Snoop Dogg is in the works at Universal, with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever co-writer Joe Robert Cole and Menace II Society director Allen Hughes.

In more music news, Lizzo announced the second leg of North American dates for The Special 2our.
