When Smino sat down with Hypebeast last month, he discussed “trying to embody characters or periods of time” in both his fashion and music. For his latest single dubbed “Nokia” – which marks just the third of 2024 – the rapper is tapping into his early 2000s nostalgia with the help of Cousin Stizz.
Smi dropped the cut off rather quietly, not doing much promotion on his socials until a few hours before the drop, simply writing “new raps w/ Cousin Stizz tonite. hit my line,” on X with a photo of the “Nokia” cover art.
The infamous Nokia “Original Tune” ringtone opens the three-minute track before the rappers get into it.
“I sent you this sh*t from a Noki-a (Brrr) / This b*tch eat me up like some gnocchi, uh (B*tch) / Yeah, I whip the Tesla, it ain’t got no key, bruh (B*tch) / I was f*ckin’ shawty on the lowski, hush (Low),” Smino declares on the chorus, handing off the second verse to Cousin Stizz.
“Nokia” indicates Smino and Stizz’s second studio collaboration, following up 2019’s “Anonymous,” lifted off Stizz’s Trying To Find My Next Thrill LP.
Stream “Nokia” on Spotify and Apple Music now and stay tuned to Hypebeast for all things Smino.
