Shinedown Scores Record 18th Mainstream Rock Airplay No. 1 With ‘Daylight’

Shinedown Scores Record 18th Mainstream Rock Airplay No. 1 With ‘Daylight’

Shinedown retakes sole possession of the record for the most No. 1s in the history of Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, as “Daylight” tops the Aug. 20-dated survey.

The song is Shinedown’s 18th No. 1 and lifts the band out of a tie with Three Days Grace for the most rulers since the chart began in 1981.

Shinedown and Three Days Grace have traded the record since February 2020, when the former scored its 15th No. 1 with “Attention Attention.” Shinedown pulled into the lead by itself with its 16th No. 1, “Atlas Falls,” that August, and the back-and-forth continued with Three Days Grace’s 16th No. 1, “So Called Life,” this February; Shinedown’s 17th, “Planet Zero,” in March; and Three Days Grace’s 17th, “Lifetime,” in July.

“Daylight” is also Shinedown’s eighth consecutive Mainstream Rock Airplay leader, tying the band with Five Finger Death Punch for the most in a row. Shinedown’s run began with “How Did You Love” in 2017. Five Finger Death Punch kicked off its likewise active streak with “Sham Pain” in 2018; the group’s current single, “Times Like These,” rises to No. 13 on the latest ranking.

Shinedown first led Mainstream Rock Airplay in 2005 with “Save Me.”

Concurrently, “Daylight” pushes 29-27 on Alternative Airplay. On the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, it leaps 7-4 with 3.8 million audience impressions, up 12%, according to Luminate. It’s Shinedown’s highest-charting entry in 10 years on the latter list, since “Bully” reached No. 3 in 2012.

“Daylight” is also bubbling under Adult Pop Airplay, where it could become the band’s first entry since “Get Up,” which hit No. 30 in 2019.

Elsewhere, “Daylight” rises 39-36 on the multi-metric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, after reaching No. 34 in June. In addition to its radio airplay, the song earned 617,000 official U.S. streams and sold 700 downloads in the Aug. 5-11 tracking week.

The track is the second single from Planet Zero, Shinedown’s seventh studio album. It debuted at No. 1 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart dated July 16 and has earned 95,000 equivalent album units to date.
