Shaquille O’Neal and The Notorious B.I.G.‘s “You Can’t Stop the Reign” is officially available on streaming services for the first time since its release almost three decades ago.
Produced by Chris “Large” Jones, the collab was originally released in 1996 and served as the title track for Shaq’s third studio album. “You Can’t Stop the Reign” had three different versions — a single that featured only Shaq, the album track that included verses from the late Biggie Smalls and a remix from DJ Quik. In a previous Drink Champs interview, the NBA legend confirmed that there was a more explicit version of Biggie’s verse. “The first verse — I’m the only one that got it, I will never play it — he went off,” he said. “And I damn near had a tear in my eye because I had to press that button. I was like, ‘Uh, Big?’ He said, ‘Yeah, yeah for the kids, for the kids. My bad, Diesel,’ and then he did the verse you heard.”
TMZ additionally reports that Shaq will re-release You Can’t Stop the Reign this June 28, and will include his previous link ups with the likes of JAY-Z, Mobb Deep, DJ Quik, Peter Gunz and Lord Tariq.
