‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Breaks Labor Day Box Office Record With $90M USD

Marvel‘s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has set a new Labor Day box office record with a $90 million USD earning across four days.

According to reports, the film surpassed 2007’s record holder Halloween, which garnered $30.6 million USD. Shang-Chi also earned $75.5 million USD from 4,300 domestic locations across across three days, while its international earnings are at around $127.6 million USD. Its three-day earnings also marks the second-biggest domestic opening of 2021, just behind Black Widow‘s $80.3 million USD and above F9‘s $90 million USD.

Unlike Black Widow, however, Shang-Chi will be exclusive to theaters for 45 days before hitting Disney+ Premier Access; the Scarlett Johansson-led film, which is also the basis of an ongoing lawsuit, hit both the Disney+ streaming service and theaters on the same day.

In related Shang-Chi news, Simu Liu reflected on his titular role and says that it will bring “[p]ride where there was shame.”
