serpentwithfeet stepped (slithered?) back on the scene last October when the enigmatic musician dropped off “Damn Gloves” with Ty Dolla $ign and Yanga YaYa. Now, serpent continues his comeback run with another sensual cut dubbed “Safe Word.”
“Safe Word” arrives as the second offering from his imminent GRIP album, and finds serpent crooning intimate lyrics over an acoustic R&B beat. ”Oh the safe word, the safe word is me / Oh the safe place, the safe place is me,” he slides on the chorus.
“[This] is a sensual song about the beauty of trust that’s been earned and the wonder that follows when partners explore each other with care,” serpentwithfeet shared in a statement. The track comes complemented by a spit-screen music video, which further fleshes out the universe serpent builds lyrically, juxtaposing the bounds of intimacy.
GRIP arrives next month, and sees additional features from Mick Jenkins and Orion Sun. Per an official statement, GRIP “celebrates and fosters the spirit and magic of Black queer nightlife while also honoring the communities that are nurtured within the walls of these intimate spaces and the monumental impact that they have on the lives of many people on the margins.” Find the full tracklist below.
