Tennis legend Serena Williams announced earlier this year that she would “evolve away from tennis” after the US Open. In her official note, penned for Vogue, the GOAT said that she was careful in choosing her words and “never liked the word retirement.”
Recently, Williams spoke at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco, promoting her investment company Serena Ventures. Williams reiterated her thoughts on retiring from the sport, teasing a potential comeback in the future. She said,
“I’m not retired…The chances are very high [of playing again]. You come to my house, I’ve got a court.”
In an interview last month, Williams said on Good Morning America and alluded that her return to competitive tennis might see her follow in the footsteps of fellow athlete Tom Brady who she said, “started a really cool trend,” for coming back to the game after announcing retirement. Williams chose to “evolve” away from the game to spend more time with her family and pursue additional business interests and focus on her charity ambassador roles. It remains to be seen if she will be back on the competitive tennis court soon.
