Sequel to ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ Officially Delayed to 2023

In what appears to be a constant stream of delays in the video game industry, Nintendo has now suffered the same fate with its planned release of the sequel to the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, pushing its original 2022 release window to 2023.

Announcing the update via a YouTube video, the franchise’s producer Eiji Aonuma apologized to fans for the extended wait and assured them that developers are currently hard at work trying to create “something special,” citing the expansive world that players will be able to explore.

“As previously announced, the adventure in this sequel will take place not just on the ground as in the previous game, but also in the skies above. However, the expanded world goes beyond that, and there will be an even wider variety of features you can enjoy, including new encounters and new gameplay elements,” Aonuma said. “In order to make this game’s experience something special, the entire development team is continuing to work diligently on this game, so please wait a while longer.”

Though no precise release date has been announced yet, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild‘s sequel is now due to arrive in the spring of 2023.

Elsewhere in gaming, you’ll be able to change classes midway through Diablo Immortal without losing progression.
